TORn/Shakespeare Moot in Minneapolis?

Sir Ian McKellen will be appearing in 'King Lear' at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis this October; tickets go on sale July 22nd. Is anyone here planning to attend? If enough people are planning to go, perhaps we could pick a day and buy a block of tickets together.

I'm not planning to go but I live almost a stone's throw from the Guthrie so I would be interested in a meet up and can perhaps act as a resource. (although I don't 'get out' much...) I compiled a list of accommodations for a friend who was hoping to come for the Symphony that I could dig out.

We have at least three other TORnsibs who live within a couple of hours of downtown Mpls. One doesn't post much. The other is pretty active (and I'm sure will pop in at any point) and the third is busy but tries to check in as often as possible. I'll send her a heads up about the thread.

Maybe you were speaking of myself popping in? As of right now, I'm not sure I'd be able to make it either, but am trying to work it out. I'll be very busy at that time. It's sad that I already know I'll be very busy.

... I thought would be popping in. Or climbing out of your frame. (I love that avatar)

The other one will be here soon. She's already excited that a moot is even being considered.

I'm rather partial to it myself. ;) I really love the title though: Escaping Criticism. Makes me chuckle.

Your ever changing avatars are fascinating. I'm curious, do we have magpies in this area? I'm wondering if I've never noticed them. I suppose that's a silly question. No reason not to ask however.

The only magpies I've ever seen were in the Badlands of South Dakota. I had to ask what they were. I don't think I knew at the time what magpies looked like. I have a friend in Colorado who has magpies in her area. I'm sure they're found in lots of places, but I've traveled and camped a bit around various parts of the US and the Badlands was my only sighting.

Until I had posted my reply, to check on their range. Could have answered my own question! I see that they are supposed to venture into western MN during the winter, but I've never seen one. My parents are from central South Dakota, I'll have to ask them if they've encountered them.

As a very occasional camper, (hoping to change that this year) I'm wondering if you have spots in Minnesota that you are particularly fond of? I happened upon Banning SP two years ago, and fell in love with the park. It is small and intimate, and I love that. I've been to the more well-known parks like Itasca, Gooseberry Falls, Great River Bluffs, etc...but get a bit tired of the crowds.

TOO BUGGY!!!!!

We're originally from Michigan which is like a paradise compared to Minnesota for camping. I could recommend dozens of places in Michigan. We also enjoy Door County Wisconsin and spent some camping/touring time in SW Wisconsin. (Dodgeville) We've done a little motel traveling in Minnesota but it just isn't the kind of geography we really enjoy. We only do that when we can only get away for a long weekend.

We hope to see this 'once-in-a-life-time' performance and are awed that it will be here in our city, but don't know how fast tickets will be snatched up.
Still, we're here, whether we see the performance or not, and anyone who wants to come and worship at the feet of the great Sir Ian, we'll be with you.
Don't forget, besides me, 'hob', who posts, there is also 'Ordinary hobbit' who lurks every day and 'Love Horses' our beautiful offspring, who also lurks - they have already been to several moots and know lots of sibs quite well. So, along with our friend Magpie (thanks for e-mailing me) and the others she mentions, we're almost a moot just in ourselves. I'm happy for anyone who wants to come here. We have a lot of floor space, = ) not to mention many most excellent hotels in this marvelous metro.
Back tomorrow, to start signing people up. Lol!

Love ya all,
hob

I know it's a ways off, but I am expecting tickets for all the performances to go very quickly - never too soon to start planning. [;)]

So it looks like shuya and I are planning to get tickets for the Oct. 14th performance. Tickets go on sale this Sunday. If anyone is planning to go that day or will be in the area I know we'd both love to meet up with a fellow 'sib.

...but I live 15 minutes from the Guthrie. My email is in my bio so lets be sure to touch base about schedules closer to the show. I'm watching this thread so I'll catch any news here.

I meant to update this sooner - but we wern't able to get tickets. When I called Sunday morning, right at 10am, I was told ALL the performances of 'King Lear' were sold out! [:(]

I had emailed HobbitLove to give her a heads up on your recent post in this thread. I knew they were hoping to go - or considering it - or something.

She emailed back that there seemed to be no chance in Mordor for tickets. Mr. HobbitLove (who has his own online name but I don't know it) had tried numerous times and ways to get some.

Sorry to hear you weren't successful, either.
