This show looks terrible!

You can dislike the direction they are going with it... but watching the new full teaser, how can anyone claim that they do not try to link the look strongely to the movies?
 
I don't know anything really about what the story will be yet - or if the acting will be good - but based just on visuals this show is clearly a LOTR show. They've struck such a great balance so far between new designs that feel so legit and call back designs that mesh with Jackson's films.
 
It looks absolutely stunning, and I’m so excited to have a new avenue of Middle-earth to explore alongside Tolkien and Jackson’s body of work. I hope you find some peace and purpose in your disdain.

That's a bit - maybe a lot - condescending, assuming someone is not at peace or does not have purpose when their assessment is different, and are in need of some sort of blessing.
 
and in lashing out. Posts like these are from people who are clearly lacking in both attributes, and I do hope they find the peace and purpose to approach the show from a different lens.

That doesn't mean liking it. There are plenty of people who don't like the show but find interesting ways to approach it critically without seeming hysterical or hyperventilating.

I find the sweeping aerials very Jacksonesque, but Elrond looking exactly like young Eddard Stark from Game of Thrones, played by the same Robert Aramayo, to be so utterly distracting and so unelf-like that I expect him to say, "No, now it ends."
 
Your posts read like someone that is trying to sound smarter than they actually are. You aren't some kind of enlightened being just because you are drinking this shows bath water...
I don't mince my words, and I mean what I say. This show looks terrible. We will see which way things fall when it's all said and done. (Hint - It will not be showered with praise and awards...it will be dissected and then torn apart for the huge missed opportunity it was)
 
You are welcome to express your opinion about the Amazon series, the LOTR and Hobbit movies, and Tolkien overall. But our rules state that personal attacks will be removed.
 
When viewing the trailer the first thing that struck me is that it looks like the M-E I am familiar with from Jackson's films.

I am not going to judge the storytelling based on two and half minutes of trailer footage but from a visual perspective I liked what I saw.
 
I feel they hit the PJ movies as closely as they could. The panning shots of scenery, the giant statues everywhere, the subtle use of symbolism, the close-up of Galadriel's eyes, all could fit right in the PJ films.

I think the costumes trend more closely to the ostentatious Hobbit movies than the more grounded LotR movies. However, I don't think they're as over-the-top. More like in between the LotR and Hobbit films.

Overall, the look from the trailers is fine. We'll have to see what it's like when the picture isn't changing every five seconds. A set can look great for a few frames in a trailer and then look like crap when the camera has to linger on it during a long exposition. But as for now, it seems to have captured the PJ movies in my eyes.

New York could very well look like ancient Rome without our technological advances. And conversely, Lord of the Rings could very well have adapted Middle-earth into a New York setting that represented how parallel development might have or should have looked as the Second Age advances into the Third or Fourth Age over thousands of years.

Assuming no parallel advancements of technology, things should look pretty much the same, except for what the gods render asunder. I find great fault in this thesis that there should be significant differences without significant advances.

Btw, starting a paragraph in the subject line is annoying because then we have to copy/paste to include it in a quote to maintain fair context.
 
I think, overall, it looks pretty good and I am much less worried about the show now.

That's my favorite armor design I've seen so far. Love it. Looks much, much better than the late-medieval/ early Renaissance heavy plate of the Gondorians in PJ's LOTR. It has a more early dark age vibe, and clearly later inspires the Rohirrim. Love it.
