the perfect Beorn?

sticklebat

Lorien
That guy looks alright but as well as having a terrifyingly serious face I always imagined that when Beorn smiled or laughed he'd light up the place. That guy doesn't look like he could smile! What about Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson? The right kind of body and very physically skilled in terms of stunt work - ideal for some impressive action in the Battle of Five Armies as well. Plus the fact the guy oozes natural charisma that I think the chracter of Beorn would have. [;)]

... overexposed. I think he would yank me outta The Hobbit and into The Rundown. No offense. [:)]

The Rock would be okay as long as they hide him behind a large, bushy black beard, and as long as he doesn't have a North American accent.

Likewise the beard and makeup are the main reason why I don't think of Professor Arturo when I watch John Rhys Davies' performance as Gimli.

yeah... I could totally see him in the role as well...good call...
he has a kinder face...taking into consideration what the Captain suggested...he should look friendlier...but still a bit fierce and menacing if provoked...
as is suggested to the Company by Gandalf as they're nearing his home...

this guy would be an awesome choice too.

than Perlman. And acting is what counts. Just saying. But considering that Tolkien`s society of Good Men wasn`t exactly about visible ethnical diversity save some difference in hair color (apaprently, Rohirrim cannot have red or dark hair or something, how very Star Trek), I`d say Dwayne Johnson doesn`t fit the description of anyone North of Harad.

actually, don`t see the whole movie but just fast-forward to Dwayne Johnson`s scenes. He`s terrific and the only thing worth mentioning about that unnecessary sequel.

I saw Inglourious Basterds too, and I think he would really suit Beorn. Even with the french accent I think it could work, because who ever said that Beorn has an english accent. After all, Pippin had a scottish one. He is from the Wilderness so a different accent is to expected in a foreign land.

as far as I know (which frankly isn't that far) Tolkien doesn't really tell us alot about the Beornings as a people but as shape changers they stick out like a sore thumb to me and I think there's potential here for a freer interpretation of Beorns humanoid appearance? I'm in no way suggesting that the films cast should be a melting pot reflection of 21st century society as that would be contradictory to the material. personally I always pictured Beorn as being quite tanned at least.

Great Voice, magnificent acting talent, the mix of boisterous humour and dreadful fury (see him as Ike Turner for the latter. lol). He has the broad shouldered build, the fierce eyes. . . he would be perfect. Beorn is hirsuite etc. Beared and enlarged by CG or whatever. . . he would do phenomenal justice to the role. He could act the part, I think, better than virtually anyone else whom I have seen mentioned, with the possible exception of Johnathan Rhys Davies, who won't be Beorn for a host of known reasons.

is currently employed in an ongoing tv series, which might make his schedule somewhat difficult to reconcile with extended time in NZ. But he would be an interesting choice, as long as the makeup hid his very distinctive face. As I have said before and will again, I don't want to be doing a lot of instant recognition of actors while I watch the movie.

And of course, there is always that part of my brain that sees him and flashes back to Cowboy Curtis. Yes, I'm warped forever by PeeWee's Playhouse. [tongue]

Fishburne, I think he's good, but not for Beorn, imo...although I've been surprised before...

I'm horrified at the thought of Johnson in The Hobbit...jus sayin...[unsure]
