"The Passenger"- Elijah Wood to play Iggy Pop

The Passenger, a film about rocker Iggy Pop- often called the godfather of punk- will be released in 2010 with Elijah Wood acting as Iggy. Personally, I am a huge fan of Iggy Pop, and cannot wait to see the film. I think Elijah could definitely pass for a younger Iggy, and Iggy has expressed approval for the film and positive critique on Elijah. Thoughts?
 
I think Elijah has chosen some really interesting role and this is intriguing to me. I'm not terribly familiar with Iggy's music (I know who he is) but I'll be following this movie just to see how Elijah does in it.
 
And I think actors can tell their agents what sorts of roles they are looking for. So in some respect, he chose it.

Considering the parts he did in Sin City, Paris Je t'aime, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Hooligans... he seems willing to go beyond the main stream, appeal to large demographics, sort of roles.
 
It seems an odd choice of casting. I've seen Iggy and the Stooges in concert and I don't see Elijah with the same energy and violence (and covered in blood and moshing). In any case, Elijah better start working out, because Iggy is cut and muscular -- even now in his 60's.

I'm rewatching the making-of movie appendices, and last night I saw the section on the creation of Gollum and how Iggy Pop was one of the references used by designers, because of his extremely low fat-to-muscle ration. :)
 
He talked about it at ORC (2007, I think), and there were articles about it then... as well as being listed in his filmography as in production mid-2007. But I also saw an article from 2005 that first announced it. I don't have a link, but I did cut 'n paste the clip:

Sounds like destiny to me :) Being 5 years older may give him even more depth to the portrayal.

I heard about it in about '08, but it was announced '05. Well, hopefully they've gotten a move on because it's supposed to be released this year. [Though there's no IMDB page]

*I'm glad to hear he's a fan of Iggy.
