The Map!

He gets it after slaying Azog at the battle of the five armies. After looting the body he finds Azog's wallet, and Lo! the map is in there.

Joking of course... but I hope PJ isn't reading this... he might recall the cast to New Zealand for a re-shoot!
 
It's fitting that Gandalf gives him the map, or maybe Thorin gives it to him as something to remember him by as he's dying.
