The Childs Tree

Half-elven
The Child's Tree

A cloud beyond work's window calls
A vision up from memory's roots
Of lying once in summer's yard
Beneath a great old tangled oak.
It twists to pierce my age thick skull,
To thread day's maze of toil and task
To break obligatory bonds and leap.

Again Earth’s mass turns beneath bare shoulders
Grass tickles at the nape of the neck,
Lazy eyes wander maze of leaf and wood above
Find a thought of sea scented air surging over distant mountains
Rushing over endless rolling plains
To end here in a swirl and eddy about sky embedded branches.
