one that cuts thru all the books (pun intended) to give a brief history of all of these and more (no not Arda, tho that occurred to me too).
i'd forgotten that all three of the other hobbits obtained their swords in the barrow downs...

Out:
Beleg/Turin's blade - don't want something that i can't trust, that brings the wearer bad luck
Morgul knife - same thing...
Eomer & Theoden's blades - never was a huge fan of the roman/rohirrim blades
sting - tho a really interesting and 'pretty' design don't think it would be a sword for me, even were it long
barrow down blades - similar to the dagger/roman blades and not as pretty as sting

possibles:
Thingol's blade - not enough discription on what this blade looked like.
Glamdring & Orcrist - definately more my style of blades tho the jeweled hilt might be hard to hang onto when sweaty/bloody

which leaves:
Anduril/Narsil

other notables that have caught my eye (with intent to purchase a replica):
Witchking's sword - meanacingly simple
Legolas's blades
Arwen's Blade - absolutely beautiful
Another Elven warrior
Strider's sword - simple, elegant, practical
Strider's elven knife (my favorite)
Ringwraith sword
 
Well, I voted for Anduril, which is a really beautiful sword. But my absolute favorite 'weapon' from the movie would have to be Aiglos, Gil-Galad's spear.
 
I suppose I would have voted for Angrist (Telchar -> Curufin -> Beren), who cut a Silmaril from Morgoth's crown.
Or else for Ringil, Fingolfin's sword, which actually wounded that awful Vala.
 
Book-wise, Sting, of course. Narsil is a little too pretentious for my taste... although, considering Sting is wielded by a Hobbit, it's more of a butter knife, really. [laugh]

Movie-wise, I would love to have Arwen's sword, Hadhafang.

I was able to decide and claim Aranruth as my favorite. Somehow the fact that it was lost makes it more intriguing and compelling.
 
within our current capabilities. Better go with Sting. I couldn't lift Anduril, but it would have been my choice were I as capable of wielding it as Aragorn is.
 
Since I'm not the King, the blade isn't as valuable in my hands. I don't know why anyone would want Turin's treacherous blade. Sting is too small for me. I'll go with Glamdring. If it's good enough for Gandalf, it's good enough for me. Although Orcrist would probably be just as good.
 
I can't help it; the history of the Numenoreans fascinates me and I would want to be the weapon that had such a significant role in shaping their future. I always wish that there was more to read about them. (It doesn't hurt that I'll be in Aragorn's hands eventually, either! [blush])
 
Spear rule. they're the longest used weapon through out history. so my choice would be Aiglos, Gil-Galad's spear.
 
Great weapon, great name. And I'm of the same mind as Curious: if it's good enough for Gandalf and Turgon, it's good enough for me.

On the other hand, I'd steer clear of Anglachel -- too much bad juju associated with that sword.

Because it's so long! I'd love a sword like that! The idea that you can fight with a piece of steel nearly 6ft in length is amazing!
