Someone's trying to put a tempest in the teapot of the Lovely Bones production

I just found this on Defamer.com and thought some of my fellow PJ fans would find it interesting, though I don't find the report nearly as dire as the reporter wants it to be, and IMO Sarandon isn't grumbling at all.
 
I automatically discount information from someone who can't spell and won't use SpellCheck! [;)]

Meanwhile, at the Speed Racer premiere in London, Empire reports that Bones cast member Susan Sarandon has expressed dissatisfaction with her character. "I play the comic relief, an alcoholic grandmother - my first grandma - but she doesn't really seem like a real grandmother because she has a lot of hair and jewellery and nails and liquor. I don't think I ever talk without a cigarette and a drink in my hand."

She sounds like an excellent match for Grandpa in Little Miss Sunshine [:)]

Im not sure that what she said equates to dissatifaction ... it could have been taken out of context.


Portraying Heaven on screen is a far dicier proposition than, say, the Fires of Mordor—all those feathers, fluff, and pearly gates threaten to tip your vision too easily into the Realm of the Cheesy Afterlife. (Just ask the guy who thought sticking Robin Williams in a Monet painting in What Dreams May Come was a good idea.)

As for portraying Heaven, I didn't like the way it was depicted in the book myself - but Im willing to have a look at how Peter has depicted it - or anyone else for that matter.

and, actually that idea of the Monet painting in What Dreams May Come, was not a bad idea. The script lacked - it was a visual experience which worked in the context of the film.

She was the comic relief and she almost always had booze and cigarettes with her.

As for the "how do we show heaven" issue, I'm a little puzzled this is still a problem. Yeah, I guess they're into post-production now, but they've had years to do tests on this.
 
in the book was fine character - I have an aunty May like that - she's a scream though - regardless of her life experiences - she's always in 'happy mode' - which is a worry to the rest of the family [;)]

What Tinatalle said. Although Jackson fought with Howard Shore over King Kong. I personally hope he doesn't want Heaven to be in any way similar to Borognovia (or however you spell it) from Heavenly Creatures.

But oh wow, let the "PJ and GDT will clash--The Hobbit is doomed" opinions begin! Let's hope Salon.com doesn't pick this up [laugh]

Sunflower, you have to understand: it's a critical fact about The Hobbit, and if both of the directors are refusing to acknowledge that fact, then we have a serious problem. I honestly don't understand why you wouldn't trust this site.

The editor said they made an error saying that filming was still going on. They really meant that filming had been distrupted while it was still shooting, but of course the movie is more than 2 moths in post production so this is really old news. They corrected the article after my email.

Talk about scrabbling for attention. You're right... this person is certainly trying to create drama where there is none, imho. Are they talking about Dan Hennah? While there may be some discussions going on about the Heavenly set, I think after a buhzillion years working together, Hennah and Jackson know how to work through any debates or concerns.

Sarandon's character sounds perfect :D She's right, her character is exactly as she's described her; and, if anything, she sounds nervous about her work and not in disagreement with Peter's directing.

I'm SO looking forward to this film! She's the perfect choice for Grandma Lynn.

I could be wrong but I feel certain FILMING has already wrapped. How can you shut down something that is already done? I wouldn't go to the wall with that fact but I feel pretty certain filming ended weeks ago.

On Thursday, New Zealand site Flicks.co.nz reported a rumor that director Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones had ceased production "due to a rift between the big man and his art director over the best way to depict Heaven. Given that a large portion of film takes place in that very location, with main character Susie Salmon looking down on her family after her murder, this seems a crucial point of difference." The site has since updated the story to make it seem like this happened a while back.

On top of that, DreamWorks/Paramount told us on Friday that the drama will hit theaters in the fall of 2009 and not on March 13, 2009 as it was reported by sites last year. We asked the studio if this had anything to with the supposed "rift" between Jackson and his art director, but that's not the case at all.

Turns out, the movie was never scheduled for March 13 at all, there has not been a delay or "rift," and a fall 2009 launch was always the plan. DreamWorks chief Stacey Snider cleared up the issue by telling ComingSoon.net, "It was a very smooth shoot with no dissent, and all heaven sequences requiring sets or Art Dept involvement were completed on schedule in March. The only shooting remaining involves blue-screen VFX elements, which will be shot in June."

An adaptation of the Alice Sebold best-selling novel, The Lovely Bones tells the story of Susie Salmon (Saoirse Ronan), who is murdered, but continues to observe her family on Earth after her death. Although she is detached from the world she once knew, Susie witnesses the impact of her loss on her loved ones, whilst her killer skillfully covers his tracks and prepares to murder again. In a tone that is both emotionally truthful, and darkly humorous, Susie tries to balance her desire for vengeance against the love she feels for her family and her need to see them heal; and ultimately comes to understand that the concept of family can encompass both the living and the dead.

Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon, Michael Imperioli, Rose McIver and Carolyn Dando star in the film, co-written by Jackson and his King Kong and "Lord of the Rings" partners Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh.

in Pennsylvania for location shooting in late December, so it would stand to reason they could be done with principle photography altogether, though I've had trouble finding a specific article on that. I did, however, stumble on a pretty obscure (and unreliable?) snippet saying that the release date has been pushed from March 09 to fall of 09. I won't sit well with this tidbit until it's confirmed through other sources.

The article i pasted in my post above, pretty much confirms the fall release date in 2009, comes from a reliable movie news website, and is quoted from the head of the Dreamworks Studio [:)]
 
I think they are "trying to create drama where there is none".

imo.. any site called "Defamer.com" has in its name its stated agenda... to defame! Therefore, it can be presumed they the would go out looking for things to pick up and make out more than it is... just for the purpose of defaming. Therefore barely merits even a grain salt.
