Sing Like Tom Bombadil

Dreamdeer

Valinor
Hey now, Merry Dell, Apple, Mac, and Compaq,
Here talk of anything, singing your own sound track.
One rule only will restrict the conversation,
One rule to ring them all into a single station.

You must sing your words, in Bombadil's own style
Tripping to his rhythm quick, rhyming all the while.
I'm sure clever fans will get it all together
Bright rhymes to pass the times in storms or sunny weather.

Hey! Come derry dol! I hate grocery shopping!
When I have a list that goes on without stopping.
Bright blue the berries are, lemons are all yellow.
Can't afford too much today. Think I'll stick with Jell-O.

Limp along my shopping cart with your squeaky wheel-o.
I have to stay alert looking for a deal-o:
Pepsi's on sale this week, so is baking powder.
Lean Cuisines are three for five. So is the clam chowder.

Hey dol! Where's the bread? We like pumpernickel.
Should I get the sweet or the dill-o pickles?
So many choices here. Wish I had more money.
Should've eaten 'fore I came. Everything looks yummy!

Lovely treats, sticky sweets, all displayed in glory-o:
Twizzlers, ginger snaps, Fig Newtons, and Oreos.
Caramels, ice cream: chocolate and vanilla.
Peach pies, apple pies, wine, and sars'parilla.

Oh no! The Half-and-Half's leaking from its carton
Onto the dogfood bag. Oh, I beg your pardon!
Sorry for my shopping cart running over your foot.
I was distracted by that display of halibut.

Hey dol! Now at last I am checking out-o.
Cashier looks at me, eyebrow raised in doubt-o.
Yes, that's what I want: value-size Grey Poupon.
Oh dear - can't be true. If forgot the coupons!

Giggling like a fool, I read your funny letter:
I tried out a few crude lines, you wrote something better!
Now I'm off to find a way to grow me some tomatoes,
Pot-herbs and salad greens, to go with my potatoes.

Javalinas menace them with tusks and hungry snorting,
Pack rats then glean what's left, through piggy scraps a-sorting.
Yet I shall persevere, with shielded growing-baskets,
Dangling just out of reach, a tisket and a tasket!

Out till two A.M., feeding chapayekas,
I came toppling home again, unfit for any fracas.
Memories of chili sauce, fragrant and enticing,
Makes my poor shredded wheat look sore in need of spicing.

Here's a little ginger-root, here's a bit of chia,
Now my breakfast's much improved, I'm singing "Buena dia!"
Still only half alive, I think I'll take it easy,
Sit back to sweet birdsong, lilting-bright and breezy.

My husband just saw a deer--off he goes a-stalking,
Camcorder held in hand, where the deer went walking.
Deer's too smart for him, leaping through the monte,
Show's naught but two hind hoofs and white tail all a-flaunty.

Me, I'll just sit right back, nothing much exerting,
I'll let the deer find me, his dark eyes all a-flirting.
Watch the hummingbirds abuzz in jojoba flowers,
Watch the desert start to bloom after winter showers.
