Set Tours

This may have been already talked about in the past, I don't know; however I'm curious if they will leave all the sets untouched and allow for tours to come through to see the various areas that were used to film both the LOTR and Hobbit movies (i.e. The Shire/Hobiton, etc.)?

A lot will probably be filmed in DOC areas again. Those are areas where nature is protected. So they are lucky when they get allowance to shoot in those places, but they have to restore everything back to as it was before (for instance Edoras).

And usually they destroy everything that is left after the film is completed (not used film material, sets etc.).

But maybe they will leave some of Hobbiton up, since it is now also a place where you can visit a bit of the set. Although the fact that the Hobbit holes are still there is more due to the NZ-weather as to planning of leaving something behind.

I gather that the guy who owns it is doing quite well off the tours, so I imagine he'll want to have it left in good shape!

As you say, anything done in public lands will have to be restored. And the sets that are in sounds stages, the quarry, etc., need to be removed to make way for other projects.

..this time is that they know beforehand theres a big market for tours. With that in mind I wouldnt be supprized if we saw more of the Hobbiton set left behind this time along with other non protected areas.
