Immortal
Okay, so when I was getting ready for work yesterday, I noticed a small hornet/waspy bug in my window buzzin' against the screen trying to get out. I didn't have time to rescue it, so I went on to work planning on a capture/release when I got home.
I forgot.
So I'm doing dishes (occasionally, I do them) and I look up into the window and see this spider feverishly spinning its web around that poor wasp! It was about 1/3 covered! I was appalled! I reached up with the fork I was about to dunk in the water to see if it was still alive. I thought to myself, "You fool! Spiders don't eat dead meat! Remember!?" The poor, terrified bugger had one leg free and gave a little kick.
"I'll save you, Mr. Frodo!"
I fought that spider off with the furthermost prong of my mighty fork and scared it away! Then I caught the upper length of the web where Mr. Frodo dangled below and walked it through the house... hanging precariously above the ground... and made it outside. It must have taken a good 5 minutes of cautiously lifting away the layers of webbing as our poor hero fought against his bounds! Finally... one long, thick strand was still hooked to his back leg and just didn't want to let loose. I tried to grab it, but it was really, really close to the Sting! I may be living in the outer limits, but I'm not stupid! So as he's trying to walk across the branch I'd rested him on, I held the fork down on the trailing strand until Mr. Frodo finally pulled himself free.
*whew* The drama was almost unbearable... but he's safe and free. I just love happy endings. Then I went back to my dishes swelling with pride!
The end
