One Rugby World Cup semi-final down.

Wales, heartbreakingly, lost to France 8-9 after playing most of the game one man down. (There's a lot of talk this morning about the Welsh captain getting a red card, but that tackle *was* dangerous.) Wales had its opportunities to win with penalty shots but the goal posts have not been their friend this tournament.

Tonight it's Oz vs NZ.

in this household last night. Rugby is very bad for one's blood pressure.
I am actually wondering if I can stand watching tonight's game. Isn't this supposed to be fun?! [crazy]

here too! Though personally I think that was a bad challenge - he could have broken his neck!

Tomorrows game should be interesting!

Just posting what I stated in the other thread. It was a bad tackle, but it was not a spear tackle and he was dropped from 3ft below onto his back (not driven into the ground with his head), which would normally result in a penalty kick or a yellow card at worst.

I'm very peeved yes, but now the spectacle of a great final has now gone. So any neutral spectators have been robbed too.

[mad]

I was at the soccer last night, cheering on my beloved Sydney FC (fat lot of good that did though...we lost) but for the last 10 minutes of the Rugby my ears were glued to the radio, head in hands as the clock counted down. I felt soooo bad for Wales.

As for tonight's game, I'll be figuratively crossing the ditch and throwing my support behind the ABs...I feel that this is a game that the Wallabies need to lose.

the IRB's definition of a spear tackle is being tackled in the air, upended, and the person landing on either his head or upper torso. Warburton needs to refine his tackling technique when facing a lighter player who is easier to inadvertantly lift.

For all that, Wales played out of their skins to keep France in place for the entire of the game, despite being one man down for most of it. How many other teams could do the same in that situation?

my combined Nz and Oz National Anthem which I have prepared for such an occassion .... cause I just cant choose. Though I must say, the last 2 lines look like Im leaning towards Australia - but if that was the case I would have said 'Advance Australia to the finals' - and that didnt rhyme. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

In the bonds of love let us rejoice,
For we are young and free.
Asking Thee to bless this place,
Give us plenty, give us peace.

Men of every creed and race,
Behold us from afar.
Our radiant Southern Cross,
and Pacific's Triple Star.

Our lands abounds in Nature's gifts
Beyond wide ocean's roll,
Peace, not war, shall be our boast,
Our hearts, Our home, Our soul.

Make us then a mighty host,
Of beauty rich and rare.
God defend New Zealand
And Advance Australia fair.

May the best team win!

I really expected Wales to go through.....such a low-scoring affair! Well, I like both the Aussies and the Kiwi's, but I have to go with the All Black's in this one......

Now just don't get me involved in one of those conversations about the characters of Australians and New Zealanders in relation to Aussies 'advancing' in their national anthem, and Kiwis 'defending'...

combining Advance Australia Fair with God Defend New Zealand/Aotearoa actually makes AAF look so much better. Some times I think we Australians are jealous of the Kiwi's...they have better scenery, they're better at Rugby, have an amazing national anthem (though anything next to the woeful Advance Australia Fair is brilliant) and, of course, the best movie trilogy in the world was filmed there [tongue]

I won't be singing Advance Australia Fair tonight, that's for sure!

your boys are going to belt the Wallabies out of the park. Deans has shown yet again that he is incapable of selecting a decent team, while the All Blacks line-up is flawless...you'll barely notice Carter's absence.

they they leave out and don't want you to sing - Rule Britania, Capt Cook, famine, pillage, sly grog and table top dancing .... or is another song Im thinking about ... [;)] [laugh]
