I had to share this!!!
1. Was in English class, and we were learning about how the Greeks would dilute their wine at parties, and then drink a ton. Ultimately, since what they drank was only about 25% wine and 75% water, they ended up not drinking too much at all. Our teacher was trying to explain it, and said, "Sort of like a tastes great, less filling" kind of thing. Of course, what comes to mind first- the commercial? No....the question that you answer on your user info page! I had to keep from smirking.
2. More LOTR-related, less TORn. I was taking an English test (did lots of English stuff today, I guess) on a text called the Ramayana. I was identifying one of the characters who takes over the kingdom while Rama (the hero) is gone, and trying to think of the very specific term that is used in the original text, and couldn't come up with it, so I just put down "steward". I was really hoping that my teacher wouldn't put a comment like "....is this from LOTR?" (I haven't mentioned being a LOTR fan to him in the slightest, but he's one of those people who's probably read everything under the sun) or something like that, but as it turns out, my answer was fine. *whew!*
3. So at the end of the schoolday, I ran into Menelwyn's office to tell her this. I had a meeting with my headmaster today about my experience at my school (all seniors have to have this meeting), which was a kind of fun meeting, since I've been at the same school for most of my life (since about age three). One of the questions he asked was about influential teachers I'd had, and among others, I of course mentioned Menelwyn. At the end of the meeting, he asked me why Menelwyn was influential, since while I had said she was a great teacher, I'm not really "into" physics- most of my other teachers (save one) taught a language, or English, or some type of music, or something like that. I told him that I had taken a mini-course that was very good that she taught.
He responded by saying that I'd taken lots of mini-courses, and I had given most of them fairly high reviews, so why was Menelwyn's different? So...I started kind of snickering, and said, "well....there's this website...".
I didn't want to go too into it, so I just told him that there was a LOTR website that I was on, and there was a discussion on here that I had a question about, and wasn't sure of my answer, so decided to go check it with Menelwyn, my "LOTR" teacher (for one of her two mini-courses), since she might know a bit about it. I asked her the question, and she gave me a funny look and asked if I was on TORn. I just told the headmaster that as it turned out, we posted on the same site! He burst out laughing, and he's not really the kind of guy who "bursts out laughing"- more the kind of guy who smiles politely. He asked if it was awkward, and I kind of giggled and said that it was one of those things that could potentially be so awkward that you just don't think about it-- so no, not really. (personally, I think it's really fun!!)
