My first ever TORn birthday mathom, and I have no clue what to do!

I did compose a little variation on the Happy Birthday song though:

Happy Birthday to me
I live by the sea
It makes my hair frizzy
But it's heaven to me!

One thing I love is knowing who else was born on June 7th, and I do know that LotR cast member Karl Urban shares the same birthday (although I wonder, since the time difference is so dramatically different between California and New Zealand, and calculating in the time, if that actually works out to the same day).

Today is also the birthday of Tom Jones, The Artist Formerly Known and Now Re-known as Prince, Ken Osmond (who played that bratty kid on Leave it to Beaver), Liam Neeson (coolness!), Gordon Gano (of the Violent Femmes), Poet Nikki Giovanni, Writer Gwendolyn Brooks, Jessica Tandy, Paul Gaugin, Michael Cera, and many others.

Now, the interesting thing for me is that one of my ancestors played a big role in history on June 7th, relating to America's independence. The Lee Resolution was submitted by an ancestor of mine, Richard Henry Lee, to the Continental Congress to declare independence from Great Britain. My grandmother, the geneaologist for the Lee Society of Virginia, would probably be happy to know that I can remember this little tidbit of family history... although I cheated and looked online (I did know something happened in my family history on my birthday though, just couldn't remember it off the top of my head.) [shocked]

Every time I get close to my birthday, I think about my mom. I was born a week late (poor mom!), and I think she was in labor for 20 something hours before having a c-section. It's wonderful that I have a birthday to celebrate, but after all that she went through with me, a part of me thinks about how much she should be appreciated on this day as well.

So, happy birthday to all with June 7th birthdays! If there's anyone else here with the same birthday, let me know! I've only ever met one person, in person, whose birthday was the same as mine to the year, and he was a cop that pulled me over for speeding (and let me go without a ticket!) [;)]
 
I really appreciate any poem that comes out just right with rhyme and meter (the music teacher in me, I guess . . .[crazy][sorry]).

And I've been meaning to post in the Fiesta thread about your burping encounter with the two-year-old so I'll do it here--that had me chuckling for days!! What a priceless kid he must be. [sly]

Ah, Richard Henry Lee! Quite a guy, from what I've read. There's even a remote possibility that one of my Rev. War ancestors could have bumped into him, at some point. We have an ancestor who was a captain with Washington's forces at Valley forge--nobody famous, just "there" (and made it out alive). No idea what his birthday was, though.

Wish had had the same policeman you did recently . . .[blush]

Name days are a celebration of a name, which is common in some Latin America and European countries. It was very popular when my mom lived and grew up in Finland, which is why my family recognizes it.

It's also my parent's 25th anniversary. So, yes, June 7th is an important day :D

BTW, where are you based in in California? I love meeting fellow Cali sibs!
 
I've had, in total, about 12 years of music lessons (piano, voice, guitar, and flute.) I'm usually pretty bad at writing poetry, so most of the time I don't try because the rhythm has to be just right. I've been making up a lot of songs lately for the kids I watch, and have been faring okay. I'm still working on a version of "We Will Rock You" for them. So far, I only have this part:

Dana you're a small girl, little girl, living in the world, gonna be a big girl some day!

and then the chorus being "We will, we will, grow up! Grow up!"

It's a bit of a mess really. I had a part about "you have drool on your face," but it's just not fitting. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

I'm so glad my story about little Ian made you laugh! He gives me a case of the giggles every day! He's very funny, and whenever I'm on the floor, he thinks I'm his climbing toy. I don't think I need a chiropractor anymore, because he likes to walk on my back.

Wow, and I've watched a lot of historical films about that time in history (loved the HBO John Adams miniseries.) I will definitely have to look into that and let you know what I think. My grandmother, the geneaologist, would likely watch it for errors, but I tend to have a sense of humor about history, so just the fact that it's a musical might give me a giggle or two.

And happy birthday to your daughter! 16 is quite an age, and I felt like it was really a turning point for me when I was that age. There was less of that "teenaged figuring myself out" and more of that "figuring out what I'm going to do next" thing going on. It's a really interesting age to be.

I hope you have something special planned for her!
 
I've heard of name days, but I've never really looked into the history behind it. Happy name day and happy anniversary to your parents!

I'm definitely north of you. I live about a half hour outside of San Francisco, and I've lived most of my life in the San Francisco area. I did briefly go to college in southern Cali, Occidental College, but ended up transferring. One of my cousins also lived for a while in Santa Monica while attending UCLA. I think I'm getting to a point where I'm feeling wanderlust again. I may have to take a trip along the coast, since it fits my budget better than flying to another country. If I do, I'll let you know! It's so nice to have the opportunity to talk with people in person.
 
With your American Revolutionary antecedents, you should schedule a trip to Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia. Great place for a vacation, even if you would have to cross the entire country to get there.

My birthday's in June, too, but not for a couple more weeks.

As i have said before it is a delight to have you among us. And that mathom was quite interesting. I had not thought to celebrate with other same day leo's ha:).

No famers here really. I am told a relative of ours (Mary Clilton) came over on the Mayflower. And Mrs. sil had a similar bout with her 1st and last birthing with our son. [:|]

I haven't been to Virginia for a while (my dad was from there), but I hope to go visit someday again. Last time I was there was when I was in middle school, so I don't think I appreciated it then in the way I'd appreciate it now.

Happy early birthday to you too! Were you born in the Gemini part of June or the Cancer part of June? I have an aunt whose birthday is the 27th and a very good college friend whose birthday is the 26th.
 
I have a fun history on both sides of my family. One side, my dad's side, I like to refer to as the "famous side" of the family. My mom's side, I refer to as the "infamous side" of the family. I especially love that while on my father's side, I have an ancestor who was a famous judge at pirate trials, on my mom's side, I have pirate ancestors. I wonder what those ancestors would think about that?
