Meet your new host! New Filming Locations, Benedict Cumberbatch, TORn Party in NYC

On today's episode, we introduce you to our awesome new host Simone Boyce! Also on today's show, Benedict Cumberbatch opens up about Smaug, we've got info on some new 'Hobbit' filming locations and details on TORn's exclusive party in NYC for the New York Comic Con!

Loved the new show, but I had to rewind a number of times, because I thought I heard...that the name of the doctor who gave The Hobbit to the recovering veteran was.....Ralph Bakshi???? I listened again and again....it sounds like Ralph Bakshi!! This feels like a "Paul is dead" moment (for Beatles fans)....I'm sure I'm just hearing it wrong, as I am playing it on a small laptop....lolol....or could Bakshi be out there....somewhere....secretly distributing The Hobbit to those in need....

And was similarly confused! I read the article in question though and it looks like there was just some confusion, as it mentions the doctor is familiar with the Ralph Bakshi adaptations but doesn't mention the doctor by name, so I think that led to the mix-up. Quite funny, though!

That makes three of us - and I actually laughed out loud. Without looking it up I just assumed it was a very strange coincidence and got a real chuckle out of it. The fact that it was a little reporting and/or writing slip up makes it even funnier.

But I caught it, too, and thought that can't be right. I hate to nit pick but isn't she pronouncing Tolkien incorrectly. I always thought it was pronounced keen not kin. I could be wrong.

Seriously though, LOVED her gollum bit at the end. It was hilarious and greatly added to her appeal somehow. . . which immitating Gollum effectively really shouldn't do, but hey. Lol.

And it is neat to have, in these modern treatments, a beautiful person of colour who is definitely NOT an orc, showcased in connection with our beloved Middle-Earth.

And I am still scratching my head over it. Lol. [shocked]

There were some unfriendly comments about her on the youtube page for the newest episode, and I was really disappointed that some people thought so poorly of her. She definitely has a different presentation style from Rebekah's, but I don't think one of them is better than the other. Rebekah had a certain quirky charm, while Simone is a bit more poised.

I hope Simone doesn't take those criticisms to heart. She did a great job.

loved the old host, love the new host, love the concept and format of Hobbit in 5....if Bakshi was a glitch, I say discovering it only shows how attentive fans are to the show!! lol....we feed off info like this...I await every episode!

Tol-keen NOT Tol-kin, but that is a common mistake. I'm surprised nobody at TORN picked up on it.

I am pretty sure that the reason the mistake is so common is because in English vowels in unstressed tend to reduce. Yes, for every stressed vowel we can find it occurring unreduced yet unstressed; however, this is not the norm. So people just assume it reduces, even though Tolkien himself chose not to do so with it.

I know it's about a week old now, but I just got around to watching it.

I almost fell off my chair when she mentioned me. [blush]

Edit:

This new H5 presenter reminds me of the "X Factor" judge who used to be a Pussycat Doll.
