The US Navy's Blue Angels and the Air Force's Thunderbirds did flyovers of several cities whose hospitals, first responders and citizens have been on the front lines during the first days of the Covid 19 virus. NYC, Pennsylvania, Washington DC, Baltimore, Atlanta were just the start! It's one of the few times to two groups have flown together. *goosebumps*

I'm going to celebrate the Fourth by watching my favourite of the Star Wars multiple trilogies; but I'm having trouble deciding which! Of course, I have to toss Rogue One and Solo in there ! *twitch* I think I'll start with Rogue One, then A New Hope and move on to the The Force Awakens. The next big decision... what SW-themed snacks/foods to eat! Nothing that moves *shudder* I've got a bad feeling about this...
 
Quite a few pictures have been flying around among my facebook friends today - including the one of my friend's daughter, now in her late 30s, dressed as Princess Leia when she was about 8, to which the response nowadays tends to be, 'Mum, you did it to me AGAIN. Every year.' *sigh* happy viewing - I admit to being gutted by the end of Rogue One, athough I should have seen it coming! I still haven't seen the most recent film - tsk tsk.

It's really cool to see those shots of the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels flying together. I used to work for a company that produced air shows, and it was neat in a show week to be able to look out the office windows and see the Angels' jets parked right outside.
 
It's a brutal memory, but it may help give us some perspective. The troubled times of the past have faded somewhat, and so too shall today's headlines and fears. In the end the Shadow is only a small and passing thing.

I was gutted, too.... cried. It was bad enough to have all those great characters one at a time (spoiler dodging), but it was so well done! I just watched this last one over the weekend. There are many spots/things I like; but was hoping for more. Loads of people really love it, though :) *giggles at Leia*
 
I think my family was told that quite a while after the fact. Her parents must have been freaking out.

That shook me a bit, but not as much as when one boy in the high school class ahead of mine dropped out, joined the Army, was sent over to 'Nam - and was killed before the rest of his class even graduated.

50 years ago...half a century has passed...

I remember when it happened. I still shake my head in disbelief. I'm so glad CSNY honoured them like that.


The Blue Angels parked outside!?!? *swoon* I'd have to run out there and pretend I was a rivet counter!
 
I attended high school in Ohio. When the shootings happened I was attending the University of Texas. I was horribly afraid that an activist Kent-State bound high-school classmate was among the dead and wounded. I desperately went from TV channel to TV channel (there were only 2-3 at the time) until I learned the names of the victims. His was not among them. But I found out very soon he was student body president!

May 4th happened to be my father's birthday. He was very upset that a group of protestors had booed Nixon that evening, after the shootings, but was not only unconcerned about the dead and wounded students, he said they had it coming. We had the fight to end all fights that night, and it drove a wedge between us.

No, I've never forgotten.
 
I never talked about it with my parents, I never liked to discuss things with them, but I think my dad would have had that same "they had it coming" attitude. Which is so, so wrong, so..."amoral", maybe, this hateful indifference. [:(]
 
The local high school had just held a very successful Earth Day, but because of the killings at Kent and Jackson State the students walked out. This was in central Ohio, and many students knew friends and relatives at Kent.
 
I was 6 when the Kent State shootings happened, so quite unaware of them at the time, but I grew up with references to them, the way we the Holocaust or 9/11, and I remember "Kent State" remained a divisive issue during the 1970s, with many people unsympathetic to the four that were killed. So it's not just disturbing that it happened, but that so many people didn't care.
 
Quite apart from the hospital visit I had that day this year ... on May the Fourth 1919, in Beijing, China, students protested against the Treaty of Versailles, which fell short of their expectations. It started a political movement
