Just realized...we're officially 4 months away from "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" being released on December 14th (well, one day short of 4 months, actually). This Fall should be tremendously exciting, as we complete the final stretch until TH hits theaters...here's a schedule of waypoints on the road to the first movie:

The Hobbit Video Blogs - Presumably Ongoing

September - Full Theatrical Trailer

October - The Hobbit action figures from The Bridge Direct are supposedly slated as being on sale sometime this month

November - Several books - the Visual Companion, Official Movie Guide, Almanac, Movie Storybook, Activity Book, World of the Hobbits - to be released on November 6th

December - LEGO The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey sets hit on Dec. 1st; WETA's The Hobbit Chronicles: An Unexpected Journey & The Hobbit: The Art of An Unexpected Journey books apparently hit Dec. 12th/Dec. 14th

Other potential things to which we can look forward: The official TH website going live; Warners is also said to be working on a TH video game which would see release sometime before the first movie, although haven't heard anything about this as of late; Howard Shore's AUJ score will most likely be released in November, if the LotR scores are anything to go by; increasing magazine articles and interviews; clips or behind-the-scenes featurettes released online; making-of features, possible looks at concept art, B-roll footage; possible HBO, Starz, or other television "making-of" documentaries (as was the case with LotR)

And then, obviously..."The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" on Friday, December 14th!

However the films turns out, Fall 2012 should be quite the roller coaster ride...the build-up to LotR all over again. I was still a lurker on ToRN back in those days, so it'll be nice to be a bit more active during the hype and hoopla this time around! [:)] What are your memories of the months preceding the premiere of FotR, and what are you most anticipating/hoping for when it comes to the next chapter with AUJ?

At least two full theatrical trailers?

Also, you forgot "TV spots." Likely to have many of those, as was the case with LOTR.

And "makings of" and "extended clips" are also likely. Three or four of these will likely happen as special shows (for the former) and during actors' promotional tours (can't wait for the Colbert bump!).
 
The TV Spots would probably start around early-mid November, just as the merchandising push really kicks in.

If there's a second theatrical trailer, I'd expect it sometime in Nov. as well (or perhaps Late Oct. before Cloud Atlas, also a WB production)?
 
The soundtrack was released just before the Fellowship. I was working as a guard supervisor at a Navy base, and a co-worker had a copy. I listened to that CD over and over in the truck while on rounds . . . nearly had the soundtrack memorized before I saw the movie for the first time. [:)]
 
I was in bookstore with my Brother and There it Was!
One volume Edition with a Gold seal in the corner saying
"An Epic Motion Picture Trilogy coming soon from New Line Cinema!"

Then was one the Millions of people on the First day the Trailer was downloadable.. To see it.

I'm like Burahobbit..I may avoid all contact with TORn during November..

The changes from the book evident in the trailer made me assume it wasn't going to be up to much. I've more confidence in them this time, hence the anticipation is greater.

I started counting the days from when the 1st trailer came out; 121 to go ... [cool]
 
but as early as Christmas 1999? Wow, New Line were really hawking the trilogy early on! [;)] Wonder if that had to do with the original release date for FotR, which I believe was Dec. 2000 (or was that date not locked in long enough for merchandise to be designed around it)?
 
I was mixed about FotR until I saw it as well...I was followed the production, but wasn't convinced until about half-way through seeing it in the theater.

And 121 days left...remember back in the dark days, when Robert Shaye said something like "Peter Jackson will never work for this studio again". Ah, 121 days seems like a cake walk...[;)]

I suspect he couldn't believe PJ didn't trust him on the royalty issue. Hard to believe New Line position at the time that the movie(s) hadn't made a profit. Smelled like a little "book cooking", as PJ thought. How times have changed, and I'm glad they did.
 
I was a film-firster so had no experience of all the build up that we're going through now. Am looking forward to all the magazine 'special editions' that are going to be around that I can keep, and getting all the books/media you mentionned after the release. Not sure whether to go totally spolier free or not, but considering I'll be at the top of a mountain (working at a ski resort) come release time it may be the only bits of Hobbity goodness I'll get [unsure]
 
to Christmas 2001, I remember missing school on the last day of the Christmas term to see FOTR and from that moment on was hooked. I had read the Hobbit before but was not familiar with LOTR. Once I saw FOTR though I rapidly read the books and familiarised myself with the BBC adaptation as well as the Rob Inglis reading. Because of this, I wasn't around for the hype leading up to the films release. Boy have I made up for that this time, been on here since 2008.

Anyone remember the fuss when GDT said he'd tell us who Bilbo was at Christmas of that year?!
