Ha ha, I don't even want to TELL you how obsessed U2 fans are. PJ, Fran, Philippa and crew added to my love of books I discovered more than 15 yrs ago, and now I check TORN daily not only to find out news of the Tolkien fan world, but to find news aobut what's going on with them and the actors as well. The need to keep up with the lives of the PEOPLE as well, you care about the people involved in the production...it's like they're extended family.
This is very weird to some, but we all understand it perfectly. It comes ffrom the surprise and inspiration we all feel at people who have unexpectedly come inotour loves by giving us something beautiful (like the LOTR films) and us being unable to give back the gift. So we keepon these sitesto prolong the experience and the glow.
U2 fans though are a different species. I won't even TELL you about my (guitarist) Edge fandom, and I've actually met him and the band....several times. In fact I'm such a fan I've mentioned U2 a couple times on the old message boards here! I've had a couple dreams about the band the night after coming back from concerts.....I blush to share any, even though they're PG-rated.....[blush]
On their 1993 tour of Europe U2 set up a "video confessional booth" in their stage area, like a photo booth, where people could sit down share and whatever they wanted to, and the "confessionals" were filmed by a booth camera. About 2 hrs before showtime the booth closed and a couple guys from the crew were assigned to go through the footage and pick out the best "confessions", which were then played on the stage videoscreen, during a breakin the show, before the Encore.
Can this be a "share your deepest geekist fan obsession" thread and us all posting our deepest darkest secrets!?!?!?
