How best to give an image an “ALT” tag (or similar)

This is by no means an urgent query (I’m sure there will be more pressing questions to answer in this new software’s early days).

And it’s possible that writing the new FAQs (excellent by the way) could become as much of a labour as Tolkien writing the Nether Appendices

But:

I think I’m going to enjoy the far better tools this software has for including images. And with that great power comes great responsibility: in this case I’m thinking of how to make that image comprehensible to any TORNsibs who are blind or for other reasons unable to see the image and who need help to understand what is there and the point or joke intended. That way, we keep everyone included.

And, quite likely, the forum’s search software can do a better job of finding the content a user was looking for and why it was posted. So (like a lot of accessibility in software) it’s just better for everyone.

So a kind and helpful thing to do, I believe.

On the old boards I used a workaround by simply writing “caption: …” (and then a helpful description. So I can carry on like that. But probably our new software includes 20 years of advances in software accessibility, and there’s a better solution?

Good suggestion! I'll look into it.
