I've been following the news on the riots for the past couple of days. Every news update on the violence going on right now in London seems to get worse. Stay safe, everyone!

Really worried about my nephew and his girlfriend, we thought they were safe enough, but with it spreading so badly now we're not so sure. We're hoping to hear from them later today.

It's spread to Birmingham now too, Artanis lives up that way, hope her and her family are ok.
 
It's so messed up when people take advantage of a political thing to do screwed up things like that.

The thing that amazes me is that in Japan, after the huge earthquake, there wasn't really any looting at all (except for one instance I heard, and it was a foreigner to Japan who did the looting.) We could all learn from Japan's example.
 
Something like "The IQ of a mob is equal to the IQ of the least intelligent person in it, divided by the number of mobsters." Mobs are about the scariest thing in the world :-(
 
I remember studying in my Sociology class in college that people will do things in mobs that they will never do in singular because they either go along with the mob or they think the sheer numbers of the mob will hide their misdeeds.
 
I remember the enormous riots in the U.S. in the 60's although I was pretty young--I always wondered about what would be the thing to do if it happened in my neighborhood--where to hide and get help.

I hope it will be all over soon and greater sanity restored so things can start to be addressed. [unsure]
 
The thugs going on the rampage in parts of the UK are just mindless thugs, nothing more.They feel they are "owed" something, cite poverty as the cause of their anger and yet they wear designer clothes that I can't afford and communicate with I-Phones.It's disgusting & the cops should dtart using more force to quell these idiots before someone is killed [mad]
 
I live in a terribly middle-class area and so far it seems to be fine, although the violence has got to Clapham Junction which isn't far away. It's all a bit weird and scary though.
 
It's really frightening to see it on the news. Our thoughts are with you all - both now and in the recovery - those poor people who have had their homes and businesses trashed.
 
You don't know me, but while you've had to think about these scary events lately, your writing has been giving me a lot of pleasure the past few days, so I wanted to say hello when I saw your post.

I started reading the FanArt forum from the beginning and found your homepage. The LOTR stories are enchanting. You have recreated JRRT's style and sensibilities so well, and the characters come to life again. I got hooked on the Gondor theme and read it right through. It was delicious to find out what happened to our heroes the week after the world was saved from earlier examples of orc-ish behavior in human/hobbit/elf/dwarf history (I'm trying to keep this comment relevant to the thread since you're a forum admin and all, see?). And the whole "what Aragorn was doing before he met Frodo and company" tale was very convincing. I will relish every tale you share with us. It's a bit hard, though, that you can't be compensated for them. Couldn't you take out a franchise with the Tolkien Estate? Look at all the Star Trek books we've gotten!

If it helps at all during this upsetting time in Professor Tolkien and your homeland (still trying to be relevant here), please accept my compliments and gratitude for the inspiring creativity you put into those stories. I feel that so many missing pieces have been filled in for me, and I hope more of our friends at TORN will continue to find your stories.

I had no idea this stuff was happening there! Things have been crazy here in the USA. My dad watchs the news everyday but nothing about riots in london. Do stay safe over there!
 
It's all a bit bonkers. I haven't been on to our high street but the local shopping mall with our local supermarket was told to close up at 2pm and apparently a lot of shops are boarded up - there's rumours that this suburb will get hit this evening. Can't hear sirens or anything though at the moment.
