in case that wave comes their way. Funny, I'm not around these parts much anymore, but always think of and worry about old friends here when I hear of upheaval. My mind is never far away (even if I lost it ages ago!)

So many earthquakes, it's certainly a little alarming. 8.8 is the strongest yet, isn't it? Those poor people.

We don't have any TORnFolk in Chile, do we?

Hawaii is under warnings too... Hoping all our hobbity sort are high and dry
 
The Chatham Islands off New Zealand's East Coast has reported a 1.5m wave, and the East Cape (on the North Island) has had a 10cm wave. More waves of increasing size are expected over the coming hours.

and people can get to safety. Can't imagine what a quake of that magnitude would be like and I hope I never find out. Apparently it was a deep quake; if it had been shallower it could have been even worse.
 
Oh I hope all are safe! Another horrible earthquake... and now tsunami threats. I'm so scared for everyone... and I can't help but fear for NZ most of all. Stay safe, everyone!!!
 
Yet another major earthquake. Are we experiencing more major disasters than usual, or is it just the fact that they are more heavily reported on the news these days that makes it seem that way?
 
I think, were the Tokyo quake of 1926 ( I think), I'm not sure what that was but it was almost a 9 I think, and the 1964 Alaska quake which was a 9.2. [shocked] I remember pics of this. Unimaginable.

Watching the water drain out of the bay on Hawaii, and not knowing how it would return! I'm thankful that the tsunami was not more potent than it was, in most places (one nearby island was hit hard), and that you're all okay. But that was scary! [:/]
 
Just wanted to say that I was at the Wellington waterfront the day that the tsunami was supposed to hit; the only evidence of anything amiss was the water having receded a tiny bit. I'll post a photo of it when I have a chance...
