I have a number of comments. I'm not sure of the interest, reception or whether this will make it to the ears of those who matter to the project, so I'll keep it as brief as possible to not waste anyone's time.
I read each page that was available. The project's purpose as stated surely looks like it's on target to its goals. But I'll give you my first impression: it's a museum that concentrates on the internals of itself and not an inclusive living thing about the world around it as this wiki should be. The structure as presented so far does not include the specific point of this thread and the kind of theme that supports the kind of travel section I suggested. The organizational structure follows almost exactly how a museum or memorial is organized. You set up a focus group to brainstorm ideas, have some kind of committee to guide its design and completion, and will not open to public collaboration until there's some sense of completion. It should be open now before the studs, drywall and paint. It should be built by the community. Waiting until something like this is "ready" is a perfect way for large collaborative projects to stall. If you wait for it to be "finished," it won't get done. Until it is done, it's a private group of invited people acting as a conservatorship and missing out on the help of thousands. That's not a wiki. The FAQ only admits to "potential contributors" in the sense that we might need to be approved by people or a committee. That's not a wiki either. A wiki is open to public accounts and registration to add and edit content with no approval process other than an email verification and security against spammers. A wiki is not a conservatorship. This project will preserve your legacy like a museum, but I frankly don't see it as a much of living thing that inspires diverse collaboration. Also, being on a separate domain will make it easily missed, so this site will need to make extraordinary effort to keep it obvious and available to everyone. You might even be wise use a DNS CNAME so that it appears on a subdomain here.
Finally, I only say that's my first and quite incomplete impression. I need to be brief so I can't do an effective job of explaining anything beyond my quick observations, and we've had no verbal exchange of ideas, reasons and understandings, so it's overly blunt and won't seem completely fair. Also, I don't know how long this has been in progress or how far it has to go. But I do know a wiki - a living collaborative project - is not structured and run like a museum. It needs to loosen up and refine and restructure as it goes along. Be dynamic.
