Has anyone watched all 3 EEs in one day?

I tried yesterday- started at 11.15am, with a break for dinner at 6pm. I only got halfway through Return of the King by midnight and had to stop. Some of my kids watched with me:)

I must confess it was a little hard to concentrate during the TT.

I'm interested to know if anyone else has done it.
 
I'm wondering if it was the EE or the TE we did in one day. I watched it with a group of friends. We started at 10AM and were done at 10PM, but we did have a few short breaks in between ot walk the dog. It was fun, but it was also a very long day.
 
Most of the time we get to Return of the King with maybe an hour more to go and we have to stop. Not because I want too though.[;)] Most of the time it's because my dad's coming home and we need to get dinner ready.[tongue]

Some times my mind does wander but, it is not lost.[sly]
 
I attended a back-to-back-to-back showing of the EE's at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge MA. Unfortunately, there was an issue with ROTK EE, so we ended up with a TE for the final movie.

Theatre seats are not comfortable when occupied for very long periods of time, I will tell you! There were parts of me that did not regret the experience being one hour shorter.

Watching them all back-to-back-to-back solidified my feelings that FOTR EE has the best story to tell of the three. TT added too much; ROTK had to pay the price; but FOTR was just right.

To address your point: no, I found that the movie had my attention for the entire time, and I never got burned out or felt in need of a break. (Then again, I don't watch the movies very often so that I don't get burned out on them.)

The Return of the King EE had just come out and we all piled into a friends basement dressed in costumes and watched all three EE's back to back with little breaks in between films where we asked trivia questions and gave out prizes etc.

We took a food break between Fellowship and Towers and my friend ran a red light and the cops pulled us over. Everyone inside was dressed in costumes (including a very big Saruman costume) and the officer was so impressed we didn't get a ticket!

(I agree though - watching all three back to back is hard , especially during TTT. - Pete's swooping camera techniques repeat a lot too and by the end you're just totally wiped)

It was not bad, as they gave you a pretty long break between the films. Being in a theater helped, I think, to keep me in "the zone" -- at home, it would have been harder to keep out distractions.

One time we watched them on vacation -- one on Friday night, one Saturday afternoon, and one Saturday night -- that was probably my best "home" viewing experience of them, but again, we limited outside distractions. It's really hard to get that many hours at one time for watching films in my RL home situations, so haven't even attempted it here!
 
I'm pretty sure I've only done it once, twice at most, but I'm not positive. All I remember is that I started at about mid-day, and I finished at about one in the morning, and celebrated by watching the ROTK Easter Eggs. It was one heck of a day overheating the DVD player. It was after that and my brother having an Abbot and Costello marathon that the player was practically killed. Note to self, only watch marathons once every few years, and give reasonable time to let the player cool. [tongue]
 
several times. Most recently on this past holiday vacation. Get up around 8 and have breakfast with FOTR, lunch with TTT, and dinner with ROTK. Now ,I don't stay glued to the tv the entire time....i'll leave the movie on while I prepare the food, wash dishes, do laundry, etc. I will confess that i've done the same thing with the EE appendices as well....that is an appendices marathon....not the movies AND the appendices.
 
I was still fairly new on TORn then...and I was working for a client where I think the work wrapped up in 2004? So it was a long while back. It was at an IMAX theater, which was pretty cool. They showed the FOTR-EE, but the others were the TE's.

It was also the first time I met any TORn-folk in RL -- the only person I thought I could find, by sight, was gramma since she had posted a photo. I kept wandering up to people who looked like that asking them if they were "gramma", got a lot of strange looks (!) but finally found her!
 
the object of the exercise is to actually "enjoy" it, I split it up into 3 days. But I won't be doing even that again until the Blu-rays come out.
 
I hope you guys remember me. I haven't been on these boards for about 6 years (sorry), but I do visit to lurk once in a while.

This past Saturday, American Cinemateque sponsored all three films at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood. FOTR and TT were the Director's Cut. But ROTK was the Theatrical release. Someone on this thread mentioned the same thing -- an issue with Jackson and the EE, for some unknown reason. Movies started at 1 pm, with a short introduction, and with at least 30 minutes between films, the movies ended at 1 am. I was going because my husband got an email from an associate in the Independent Film and Television Alliance, letting him know about it. He was going out of town, but passed it on to me. I thought it was going to be only the Fellowship, and the Theatrical version, but I wanted to go and invited my friend, who was as excited as I was. Imagine my surprise when I found out, by chance, at midnight on Friday night, that it was going to be all three films and the Director's Cut to boot! It was wonderful! I was disappointed that ROTK was the theatrical, but hey, I'll take what I can get!

I think in 2004 or 2005, on Christmas day, my son and I watched all three Extendeds, and invited a couple of friends over. We started around 10 am and finished around 9 or 10 (can't remember) taking about 2 half-hour food breaks. So, I'd done it before this past weekend, but this was much better, since it was in the theater and the real deal. I hope some of you out there plan to do this for yourselves. It's a great way to see this movie the way Jackson intended it to be seen.

which didn't make sense but then, names have their reasons whether I get them or not.

For a long time, I read another member's name as : smoker - ings ... instead of smoke - rings. I kind of associated it with musings.
 
Yet another downer that I hadn't gotten into LotR sooner. That's probably the one screening I could have made out of all the ones that usually take place. [tongue]
