Handling Spoilers

Hello,

First, I just want to say that the new boards are awesome and I have been spending a lot more time reading here lately! Somehow y'all managed a complete overhaul without losing the feel of TORn. Kudos!

I haven't seen this addressed anywhere, so hopefully this isn't a repeat. I read through TORn 201 (very comprehensive - wow!) and saw that spoilers should be mentioned in the topic line, but that doesn't help those of us who view the board in flat mode and see the text of all the posts at once. I was wondering if there might be a way to add some way to handle spoilers. The two things I've seen done are -
1. Make the text the same color as the background, which wouldn't be too tough here because the background of every post is the same color. - this would be easy to do but I don't think the background color of the board is selectable as a text color.
2. Leave the text black, but add the option to change the color of the background color to be black as well (kind of like the highlight feature in Word, but highlighting in black to hide the text).

Either of these would help a lot. I know you all are probably still very busy with getting everything up and running, so I was hoping maybe this could be added on a future features list or something.

Joys of flat mode. I tend to view the thread headers, then choose to expand all threads in the threaded mode unopened, then pick the ones I want to read in flat mode. Gives me an idea of possible posts with spoilers and all that, so I can choose to view it differently (individual posts etc) and skip any spoiler posts I may not want to read.

If its something like the Lost thread, I'd just treat the entire thread as possibly containing spoilers. So venture at own peril and all that.

Personally, I'd go a bit nuts if I had to start highlighting all spoiler posts to read them. I'm happy with a spoiler tag in each subject line and then avoiding it that way if I wish. Able to pick them out from the upopened threaded mode :)

Ummm yeah, thats just me though.
 
I guess my thing is that I've seen the highlighting thing work really well on other boards (and we did it on the old boards too, to some extent). I love being able to open threads in flat mode - I actually read a lot more posts now that I don't have to open them individually. Also, unless I haven't quite gotten the hang of this yet, when you open one post, you can still see the next few posts after it, so you could still be inadvertently spoiled by a post you didn't click on! I'm not sure what the answer is. (Edit: I just found another way to view the board that does allow you to view one post at a time, so I take what I just said back! I am still a fan of flat mode though)

One of the boards I read occasionally just added spoiler buttons, which is kind of cool. If there's a spoiler, instead of invisotext, there is a button that says "Show Spoiler". You click on it and it shows up in normal text. Click it again and the spoiler is hidden again. I thought that was neat.

and in HTML like this:

Either way, you should get the result after the asterisk below:

because my highlight color is gray (which works best for most applications and purposes), so I can barely see the spoiler text when I highlight it. As a result, I have not yet read a single spoiler, because it's too much trouble to change my highlight color just for visiting TORn.
