Guillermo del Toro At Peace With Hobbit Decision

Calling his decision to walk away from directing The Hobbit "the biggest heartbreak of my life professionally", Guillermo del Toro is getting ready to bounce back.

Del Toro plans to attend Comic-Con to be part of a preview for Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a horror film he both produced and co-wrote. He clearly still likes to excite his fans and noted, "We're gonna announce a few things at Comic-Con that are surprises. But I'm probably going to announce my next directing project right after Comic-Con. I's a pretty big one." That should perk up the ears of those who love his movies.

While Del Toro truly was saddened to leave The Hobbit (possibly to Peter Jackson's direction), he did tell Entertainment Weekly that "at the same time, I'm entirely at peace with it. Read the entire article here.

No regrets and lots of cheer, GdT deserves to have a great ComicCon and get on with the many projects he has waiting to do.
I hope he is considering At The Mountains of Madness - and Frankesnstein.
Im also looking forward to seeing Dont Be Afraid of the Dark when its released.

... it must have been one of the hardest decisions of his life. I'm glad to know he is now looking forward to making his own brand of movie magic. He loves SDCC, and if anyone here in Hobbit-land is going to SDCC one place you can say Hi to him is on Saturday 24th at the GENTLE GIANT booth. He's there with Doug Jones from about 2pm, so you can call by and collect a hug or three. I know if you say you're from TORn that you'll probably get an extra-squeezy one (and you ain't been hugged until you've been Guillermo'd!).

I know it isn't the same as talking to the guy, but I will let him know that folks still have the wish to convey appreciation. He will understand.
 
Guillermo was open, honest, funny and down-to-earth. One of us. And made us feel like we were as important to him while dealing with the massive responsibilities of working on The Hobbit.

I can't help but hope that one of the "surprises" he will announce is that his resignation from The Hobbit was all a dream, that secretly they've worked out all the problems and he's back as director of the movie with a release date of 2011 .... [unsure]
 
that if there are multiple second units filming again, Guillermo might be available to step in and direct a couple of scenes.
