The Gaffer and I both have new desktop computers -- my old one was ten years old, his was seven. He's named his Samwise Gamgee, so mine is (all together now) Rosie Cotton.
And after a positively Biblical forty days of 100-plus weather, only two days shy of tying the all-time record, some rainstorms passed over the area yesterday (if not, alas, over our particular part of it) and dropped the temperature so low it never did recover past 96. We're going back up to100 today, of course, but there is some hope of more showers.
Meanwhile, I just learned that a good friend in Florida had to have surgery for a brain tumor this week. Needless to say, this is very upsetting.
I'll have my usual frappuccino please, and good wishes for my ailing friend along with the usual hopes for rain.

I've been staying up way too late, for no particular reason, and it makes it really hard to get moving in the morning. *yawn*
Our older sister and nieces have been visiting with mom this week. It has been nice to see them. My younger niece, age 11, entertained herself by designing wedding dresses for all of us. Mine is made of the finest hand-crafted silk bedsheet from Walmart, with gold straps, plus a giant ruby in the front, and a giant emerald in the back for balance. And it's a bargain at $3 million! (I haven't met the lucky groom yet, but he's gonna have to be rich, to help me pay for the dress...even with the 90% discount she's giving me. [cool] )
I'm dogsitting this weekend, two sweet old German Shorthaired Retrievers. The older guy is 13, and the vet has warned his mom that he probably won't make it to 14, but for now he's hanging in there. I just hope he doesn't drop dead on my watch. That would be awkward... [crazy]

We are having a very uneventful day today. It is a beautiful day -- mid 70s, not a lot of humidity, but we are trapped in the house. One of the two hog factories (some call them farms) are hauling pig **** (excrement) and the smell will knock you right over. So for at least a week, we can't go outside. Things we have to do must be done VERY early in the morning or at a run.
I can get some house stuff done. I've been cleaning and I have a loaf of bread baking, so I am keeping busy. OhioHobbit is working on laying out a drawing he is wanting to do. It has a lot of elements, so there seems to be a lot of planning to do. He is also a perfectionist, so everything must be in just the perfect place in the drawing!

It has been a good week here, the weather has been summer-like, for a change. I love hanging the laundry out on the line when it's like this. There's something a little therapeutic in it, somehow. Anyway, I had a lovely birthday dinner last weekend with all my kids and three of the g'children. It's rare to have everyone at the same time. My g'daughter (9) made me a beautiful card with the theme 'you are the flower in my heart' -- I got very misty-eyed at that.
My sciatica is improving slowly, so that's a relief. I have the best chiropractor in the world, I think!
I'll have a steaming hot chai latte, please (can't stand luke-warm drinks that are supposed to be hot!) and wish everyone a happy weekend.

I know, it's a lovely warm day, but that's outside - and I'm stuck inside, in air conditioning that feels cooler than usual (I'm wearing a sweater/jumper!).
Off to see my Dad tomorrow, as his 88th or 89th birthday is next week - no one's really sure, he was born on a farm and never had a birth certificate (he "chose" a date for the Statement Re:Birth when he went into the Navy as a teen).
But a visit will be nice, and he'll probably send me home with another pile of rhubarb. Pie, anyone? [

Mid-70s -- oooh, would we love to see that! Not so much on the pig, er, stuff going by your house. I hope you have nosegays and pomanders like the Elizabethans used to carry around. Although there's really nothing better than the scent of bread baking, something the Gaffer hasn't done in a long time -- no way are we going to turn on the oven in this heat.

Sorry about no rain. We got almost 3 inches on Saturday and cooler temps since. Thank goodness the bad storms in our area were about 10 miles north of us.

What a lovely card your granddaughter made for you. The grand-kiddies are a very special little crew, aren't they? Glad to hear to sciatica is improving, too. I've had a couple of bouts with that and boy, do I sympathize.

That's not something you see much any more -- not around here, anyway. My friend in Scotland grows it in his garden and likes it stewed. A happy birthday to your Dad. Either 88 or 89 is a good round number, that's for sure. Enjoy! []

Very imaginative youngster! That sounds like quite a dress! I would like to see it though -- the jewels on front and back sound decorative. Would give the guests something to look at while the bride faces away from them!
