FOTR 10th Anniversary Party: Who, What, Where, When?

Here’s a little game to celebrate The Fellowship of the Ring’s 10th Anniversary! Can you tell me Where each of these character’s picture takes place and What they're doing When it happens? Each answer is worth 1 point for a possible total of 20 (one for when and one for where)... and a bonus point for the mystery character's FILM name. I’ll be back later with scores and answers. The only ones I have with any certainty

2. A carrot munching PJ in Bree. Erm, was he 'Surly Townsperson' or something?
4 . Gandalf staring into the fire at Bag End
7. "They're taking the Hobbits to Isengard" Legolas on some outcrop in the Plains of Rohan/Emyn Muil
10. Pippin looking into the Palantir - Not sure where embarrassingly. I know the rest of the crowd are with him so...the ruins of Isenguard?

Can't believe I can't get the Strider one. You would have thought I'd have his appearances memorised by now [blush]

1) Amon Hen when the Three Hunters decide to follow the Uruks (?)
2) PJ eating a carrot at Bree (didn’t know he had a film name)
3) When the Fellowship are racing towards the Bridge, Boromir nearly falls into the pit.
4) Gandalf at Bag End talking to Frodo about the Ring
5) Takes place when the Fellowship are leaving Rivendell and Elrond’s farewell
6) Merry looking pleased that Gandalf remembers the way in Moria
7) Legolas in a boat on the Anduin after hearing a noise from the woods (crows are seen to fly out of wood?)
8) Not a clue with this one – going to go for the Hobbits hiding from the Ringwraith on their way to Bree
9) Frodo at Amon Hen talking with Boromir
10) Pippin at the Prancing Pony just after the Ring slips onto Frodo’s hand and vanishes.

If edits are allowed, I change my mind on #1. I reckon it is a couple of scenes before with Aragorn and Legolas talking about which shore to be on. There is blonde hair in the picture and I don't think Aragorn and Legolas get close enough in my original answer for it to be that.
So if I can change: Aragorn talking to Legolas at Amon Hen/Parth Galen/Falls of Rauros [tongue] about waiting for the cover of darkness.

 

[Delrond]

1) At the Falls of Rauros, after Frodo and Sam have crossed the river. Strider is addressing Gimli and Legolas before they begin to hunt down Merry and Pippin.
2) Bree, as the 4 Hobbits arrive and are looking for the Prancing Pony.
3) Khazad Dum, Boromir almost falls as they are being chased by the Balrog on the way to the Bridge?
4) Bag End. Gandalf is stewing over the One Ring before Frodo arrives.
5) Leaving Lorien in a canoe. He is daydreaming over his gift of three golden hairs.
6) You got me on this one.
7) Rohan, as the Wargs are approaching.
8) Drawing another blank.
9) Ithilien. Right before Faramir takes he and Sam into custody.
10) Meduseld, Merry is wakes up right before he takes the Palantir from Gandalf.

(I am not disqualified by virtue of being on the party committee, am I?)

1. Strider : he's got this soft look in his eyes. I think it's just after Frodo's offered him the Ring on Amon Hen and he's turned it down. He says something about - I would have followed you to the end - or something.

2. Mystery Character : Albert Dreary (without looking it up, I think that's it... name from Decipher Card), Man of Bree - played by Peter Jackson. He's in the streets of Bree as the four Hobbits make their way to the Prancing Pony.

3. Boromir : haha... I think this is when Boromor almost falls off the ledge while running from Balin's Tomb in Moria. Legolas saves his... er... saves him.

4. Gandalf : he's looking contemplative. I think it's either just after Bilbo's left Bag End (and just before Frodo comes back from the party) as he's pondering that Ring on the floor. Or it's in Moria as he's figuring out which way to go. Lighting suggests Bag End rather than Moria so I'll go with that. It could be him pondering the realization that a Balrog is afoot... but again, lighting suggests Bag End.

5. Gimli : I think this is Rivendell. Again, lighting is a cue - Lothlorien was bluer. I want to say it's during the pledging of the Fellowship.

6. Merry : I will admit, I downloaded it to my computer and enlarged it in Windows viewer so I could check the cape. Not Elvish. So before Lorien. It's dark. And he looks impish... not fearful. must think awhile....

returning to this... although the lighting isn't what I would expect for the Prancing Pony, is it the "It comes in pints" moment?


7. Legolas : ah, I think this is in the boat on the Great River when he senses the running Uruk-hai and looks sharply to his left (even though they should be running on the right bank).

8. Sam : at night... I think he might have the Elvish cloak on. He's looking up at someone, presumably a man. His expression is ... wary? uncertain? also not sure

returning to this one... I thought night but perhaps not. Perhaps it's a Parth Galen when Gimli is talking just after disembarking from the boats and Sam is (perhaps) sitting in a dark spot by some rocks and looking up at him.

9. Frodo : I think this is Frodo arguing with Boromir about the Ring. Something like, "What would you have me do?" Location... where ever that spot is between Parth Galen and Amon Hen. Geography names are not my strong suit.

10. Pippin : is this in Balin's Tomb when they all think Frodo has been killed by the Cave Troll?

 

[One Ringer]

1. Amon Hen - Aragorn disregards Legolas' desire to cross the Anduin.
2. Bree - Peter Jackson eating a carrot.
3. Mines of Moria - A close call as Legolas saves Boromir from a nasty fall.
4. Bag End - Gandalf telling Frodo to hold out his hand.
5. Rivendell - Gimli amongst the Fellowship as Elrond offers his farewell and blessings.
6. Mines of Moria - Merry reacting to Gandalf's returned "memory".
7. Anduin - Legolas' reaction to something astir, most likely the Uruks in pursuit.
8. Under the tree - Sam quietly avoiding the Nazgul's hunt.
9. Amon Hen - Frodo dejects Boromir's request for the Ring.
10. The Prancing Pony - Pippin in reaction to Frodo's sudden vanishing.

Drum roll, please...


Strider – At Amon Hen when he is deciding to rescue Merry and Pippin rather than follow Frodo.

Mystery character – I think he’s called something clever like “Carrot Eater” or something, but of course it’s PJ, in Bree near The Prancing Pony

Boromir – In Moria in the Chamber of Mazarbil (sp??) trying to close the door before the troll and orcs arrive.

Gandalf – at Bag End; he’s looking into the fireplace after throwing the ring in.

Gimli – Fruitloops! It’s hard to make anything out, but maybe in the flet in Lothlorien while Galadriel is talking to him

Merry – At Amon Hen, watching Boromir being killed

Legolis – in the canoe floating down the Anduin. They cut from a shot of the Uruk Hai to Legolas seemingly sensing danger.

Sam - In the shire just down the hill from Farmer Maggot’s farm. This is when they are hiding from the Black Riders under the tree.

Frodo – At Amon Hen when being confronted by Boromir.

Pippin – Oh shoot, I know that look, but can’t think of it. I’ll guess it’s in The Prancing Pony after Frodo puts on the ring and disappears.

If you had the right area in your descriptions, I gave points. I also made Parth Galen/Amon Hen, Bree/Prancing Pony and other close calls as the correct answers.

There was a possible high score of 21. One point for Where the pic takes place and One point for What they were doing When the pic takes place with one extra bonus point if you knew Peter's character name.

Kudos to Magpie for knowing Peter Jackson's cameo character's film name *earns gold star*.
