I know that there are a lot of polls about book vs movie characters but I was just thinking about Eówyn in the book and wondered what you guys think of her in comparison to the movie. What do you think they nailed or failed with Eówyn?
 
I could have done with less Ninja-Eowyn. And I absolutely hate, hate, HATED the pathetic bad cook scene. She's a princess. Why in the heck would she be expected to know how to cook??? Oh, and she was leetle too "lovesick teenager" over Aragorn for my taste.

Other than that, I think they captured her vulnerability and her personal torment quite well.

But for the poll, I voted book Eowyn. The movie was a good copy, but the book is the real thing.

She is one of my favorites but the movies just weren't long enough and in some ways even if they were it would have been impossible to show everyone in the depth as they were portrayed in the books. The movies are fantastic but don't stand up to the books, but perhaps would have been better with a few extra hours of characters development for all...
 
I tend toward the book Eowyn for the simple reason that while the movie version was good I felt there were times she was too much like a teen girl with a crush-- i'm thinking of that horrendous stew scene with Aragorn in particular. I pretty much cringe everytime I see it! Also due purely to length constraints I felt like the character development in the movies wasn't as much though they did capture her essence minus the stew moment!
Either way she's still one of my favorites
