Does anyone know why the Old TORn site is down?

Over the last few months, I have been pulling up, reading and researching numerous areas of the Old TORn site (Greenbooks, Questions and Answers, Tehanu's Notes, Quickbeam's Out on a Limb, and News Archives... to name a few). Getting a page to load might take awhile, but I haven't had more difficulty than waiting patiently or occasionally just coming back later when things were really slow.

I linked to Questions and Answers for my latest Scavenger Hunt on Main and a few people apparently were able to access that area (because they indicated they had in their replies in that thread) but Dernwyn reported on Friday that she couldn't get in. I've tried a few times over the weekend as well without any success. I suspect all the links I've tried are from the url: http://archives.theonering.net however I'd have to be check to be sure.

Additionally, I wasn't able to get into Rolozo which is http://fan.theonering.net/rolozo/ and I assume is connected to the TORn site.

I know things here get slow or inaccessible at times but this is the longest I haven't been able to access these older areas and I'm a little worried about what that might indicate.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows what's up with this or if I should just contact someone else (any suggestions who?).
 
I'm guessing maintenance is being done and/or the delay in getting it back up more slowly than usual is due to the holiday weekend.

You could email Corvar, which I'll do also, but I'm betting it will be back up and running after he finishes enjoying his holiday weekend. [:)]
 
TORN proper has been very slow to load these last few days and the adverts are all red Xs. Is anyone else experiencing this?
 
The message made it seem like it had just been turned off-line, so you're most likely right that Corvar has been giving it a bit of TLC.

With some of us poking into it nowadays, maybe it needed a little tune-up! [laugh]

Not red x's. For me all the top-of-page banner ads have been "alt-text" boxes (see red ovals) for a number of days now. Except the Star Trek ad (see green oval above)! Hmm... are those red x's a MS-Internet Explorer feature? I'm using Firefox.

And I agree about the slow re-loading, but I hesitated to assume that wasn't my creaky old router.
 
The items squire circled aren't ads, they're the graphic (picture) border for the message boards. They're not broken, they're turned off while he works on another item or two; ditto with the old TORn site. It may take a few days though, due to Real Life, so be patient. It should help the slowness too. [:)]

And thanks to Corvar for his work! I think the old forums are a wonderful resource. The Reader's Diary review site for the J.R.R. Tolkien Encyclopedia cites them at least a half-dozen times.
