This weekend, we switch our clocks back where I live. If it is observed where you live, I was wondering everyone's thoughts on DST. I don't mind "losing" an hour of sleep. Having the extra daylight in the spring and fall is great, but in the middle of the summer, dusk doesn't roll around until nearly 10 PM. Makes for a bit of sass from little D when it comes to bedtime. There have been some pretty dark mornings waiting for the school bus as well. I think it is a net positive; mostly though, I think we are in the wrong time zone. Where is that, you ask? If I was the Bionic Man and had really really good aim, I could probably hit Patty's house with a rock. Not that I want to throw rocks at Patty. Well maybe.

I think I just left Rivendell. [:)]


Oh, it just occurred to me - was Middle-Earth large enough to have time zones?
 
You know I loathe this tampering with the clocks! I am so anti Daylight savings time I could spit nails.

But thanks for telling me. I hadn't realized it was this weekend.[:(]

The 'have to' arisers in this house are not going to have fun with this happening (although i usually get up too to see them off). I guess it is time for a more intensive light therapy 'for an eye opener' lol.

I could stand seeing light into 6-7o'clock on the evenings[:)].
 
I'm retired and don't have to be anywhere on an early timed basis, because this back and forth with the clock messes up an already wonky sleep schedule. My circadian rhythms don't like it. Only on Sundays do I have to be somewhere early, so that's good. But it's the principle of the thing![cool] And I guess most people don't mind nowadays because we mostly use digital clocks. But it plays havoc with my chiming grandfather clock--the chime becomes out of sync with the time. What I've been doing since we started doing DST--since that oink Mitch Daniels signed the state of Indiana up for it, is just leaving my grandfather clock alone (it's off 1 hour during this time period, and correct at Christmas time). My family all know that it's an hour slow in the summer.
 
Here in Texas DST just means the heat of day lingers so long into the evening, you can't leave your house until 8 pm or so without broiling on the pavement. The Gaffer keeps saying, why don't we just change all the clocks half an hour, one time, and then forget about it!

However, if this is the only thing I have to complain about.... [unimpressed]
 
What a nice desk planner I have, telling me DST is this weekend. I guess there'd be nothing wrong getting to church Sunday AM an hour early. [blush]
 
we may be dodging hail tomorrow. I'm bringing my teflon umbrella from the last DST support group meeting. Still have yours?

Honestly, Central Time makes more sense -being in line with Second City instead of the East Coast.

Were you here in 2005 and 2006 ? I'd never seen hail that large before. We had to replace the roof 2 years running.

We lost several large trees and one went through our neighbor's roof. Little D really was little then - we have a pic of him shoveling the hail that had accumulated by our garage from the roof. In the middle of July wearing shorts with a snow shovel. Priceless.

Since we switched to DST, has that extra hour of sunlight burned the corn up there, or was that all just a bunch of anti-DST puffery?
 
Delirious staggering time[:P] (or delirious staggering to toilet). Those days of 1hr commuting (and up at 4:40) was rough for a week, or more...
....Thank Eru for this ..er.. break until the, 'pushing up of the daffodils' time:).
 
because I quite simply couldn't be bothered digging out the instruction manuals to figure out how. In four weeks' time I'll be able to set the DVD to record shows without having to do mental arithmentic involving translating 24-hour clocks *and* removing an hour. [crazy]
 
for the TV the cable company sends a signal (so does the cell phone service provider) and I don't bother with the DVDs either. Maybe Mr.PattyJr. does it.[unimpressed]
 
I love the late twilight evenings. I know a lot of parents complain but I can't remember not liking it even when my kids were small.
 
We're so far south that the days' length doesn't change a whole lot. The state of Arizona doesn't do it, either (not sure why).

I have read that the main impetus for DST is from merchants, who find that people shop more when it's still light after work. They keep advocating moving the change dates to extend the time longer.
