crypto quote quiz anyone?

For any fans of these, here's a challenge I stumbled upon that you might like -- a Tolkien quote in crypto-code format:

Y NGP'I ZPGO AVCE GE LGM AVCE VJ OSCC VJ Y JAGMCN CYZS; VPN Y CYZS CSJJ IAVP AVCE GE LGM AVCE VJ OSCC VJ LGM NSJSUDS

For the uninitiated, each letter of the alphabet in the words in the quote has been replaced by another letter of the alphabet. Just figure out what the real letter is supposed to be in each case and you've cracked the code.

This one is either really hard or really easy, depending on how quickly you get some of the key words...

And I do hope I typed the code correctly -- apologies if I messed it up, it's harder than it seems to type one of these accurately, I found out!

Not too hard as these things go, started with the single "Y" words, followed by the "I" after the apostrophe and the "P" before it, made a couple educated guesses, and it fell into place pretty quickly. I love those kinds of puzzles. [:)]
 
Wynnie once challenged us with monthly Tolkien cryptoquotes, a long time ago! Not many would attempt them, but then, these kinds of puzzles are not everyone's "cup of tea".

Chestnuts it is, here, precious - Bagginses, he confuses us, he does! Even before working the puzzle, the quote looked familiar:

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

I was delightfully surprised to find this one on a list of word play puzzles I had downloaded...I didn't know it was a Tolkien quote when I started on it, so it was kind of fun once I caught on to the source...

Wynnie's would be fun to reprise though, if they can be found -- we haven't had any regular games on the site for awhile, at least I don't think so!
 
I always liked doing these. This was pretty easy because of the configuration of the first two words, although the paucity of "T"s made me second-guess for a moment. The repeated structure also helps.

Somebody should start up the monthly crypto again!

As Dernie said, the pattern seemed familiar, even when I first scanned it.

I had saved Wynnie’s cryptograms and worked on some of them last year when I had a lot of spare time. She was surprised to find replies to her posts two years after the fact. :o) You can find them by searching for “cryptogram” and refine the search by selecting “only posts made by” “Wynnie”.

remove the e for i and c....carry over the b and s and it gives.....

I dont know half of you as well as i should like and i like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

We haven't had one of these for ages! I love to do them, they're so challenging -- although this one was pretty easy. [:)]

You're right. Once I got a few of the letters in place, it really took off. I like that :D
