I only ask because of something that Brethil bought up in a very recent discussion on Off Topic. I think she summed up nicely why the above thread might need some pruning:

But it does really REALLY bother me when personal attacks and snarky comments are made about these people: public professional or not they are still people. I don't feel that critically and negatively discussing their appearance, their purported 'motives' or their personal lives is really needed or relevant.
