Come on in to our Unexpected Party - it's Fiesta Friday!!!

Well, okay, Fiesta isn't exactly Unexpected. [tongue]

The Unexcpected Party refers, of course, to the first chapter of the first book published by our dear Professor. And.. the seventieth anniversary of the publication of that book is coming up next Friday. Yep, The Hobbit was first published on September 21, 1937.

So, next week's Fiesta will be a very special one, in honor of the publication of The Hobbit. And, this week's Fiesta kicks off a week-long celelbration of Hobbity things (mostly on Main). Limericks, poems, pictures... if you have them, post them over on Main!

*Kicks jukebox and passes out earplugs, "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" by Leonard Nimoy fills the room. Eeep!

It's *finally* actually chilly here, so I'll take my Fall/Winter Usual please. Fall's my favorite season-- so I'm glad it finally seems to be here!

so I can eat lunch and get back to the dreaded housecleaning. It's Friday!!! though so that is something. I would start reading The Hobbit for my usual fall reading, but OhioHobbit is reading it right now. We do have other copies, but I don't like to read our copy with the painting by Tolkien or the heavy anniversary copies. Our reading copy is the one with the eagle and rescued friends in the nest on the front.

Hehe. I have a 'reading' copy of The Hobbit too, so as not to disturb my other copies too much. Luckily, it's a fast, easy read, so you should have it back fairly soon. Nice of you to lend it! []

I have been going flat out at work since I got back from holidays. And yesterday my sister came to stay the night so of course we stayed up late talking and it was so-o-o-o hard to get up this morning. One of those mornings when Iarrive at work and wonder how I got there because I don't remember the journey. But at least the search for a half-time replacement for me is moving along and I should have someone before the end of the year, hopefully sooner.

And my hubby is having brachytherapy for his cancer in early October, and fingers crossed that this will be a cure.

So, coffee, I guess, maybe served by 'one o' them Rangers', please Altairs. And how are you settling into your new place? Still got boxes to upack?

I need caffeine -- the next deadline is getting closer and I have only a few minutes to play today, sigh.

Someone here recommended the pumpkin spice latte last year, which I appreciate. Lip-smacking good. So is The Hobbit, of course. I must re-read it soon, my hardcover rather than my 1960s paperback which is falling apart.

I'm planning to buy a falling-apart copy of LotR to take with me to NZ next March, so if it falls into the pond at Hobbiton or wherever, I won't mourn losing it, like I'd mourn losing one of my four other copies. Great swathes of it are permanently engraved on my mind, anyway.

Oh, and yesterday was my older son's 33rd birthday, so he's officially of age! He was actually born on a Friday the 13th way back when, which explains a few things about his personality [] Mind you, having a child that old (and my baby is thirty!) makes me feel as though I'm eleventy-one.

Perhaps I will start off slow - with just one shot of tequila with my green tea and then see what happens! Cheers all - life is good. My oldest daughter returned from 2 1/2 months of traveling throughout Europe with a backpack, my youngest daughter is apprenticing with my son, who is a wine maker, setting herself up to hopefully apprentice in NZ next spring at the same winery my son and his wife worked in and were married in! I know that is a huge run-on sentence, but just wanted to share. I am still hopeful that I will make it to NZ someday.

We've only a little over a week to find out if the big hope of a "The Hobbit" announcement will be made on Sept. 22. I'm doubting it![sly]

I'm with you, Elberbeth. I got lots of sleep last nignt, but it was catch up sleep and I'm not quite caught up, lol! [laugh]

How fun that your sister is there and you're having a good visit. I didn't know your husband had cancer though. Best of luck to him and you both!
