Josh Tyler at Cinema Blend is trying to tell his readers that Aragorn is part of the second Hobbit movie. In an "UPDATE," he derides comments (some of which he deleted) that disagree with him, telling us we are uninformed.

Just to clarify for those who haven't been keeping up with Jackson and Del Toro's plans for the next two Lord of the Rings movies and seem to be confused... yes it's true that Aragorn does not appear in JRR Tolkien's original novel "The Hobbit". However, only the first of these two new movies will be based on "The Hobbit". The second of Guillermo del Toro's Middle Earth movies will be based on different, ancillary Tolkien material which fills in gaps between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. As such, it will involve familiar characters like Aragorn.

Maybe if a few of you post comments he might be persuaded. But I'm not holding my breath. It seems that all guys like this can do is report old rumors. [tongue]

That guy seems to be about one year behind the news. Oh well, he'll eventually learn that he's wrong. We have it on the best authority, after all [evil]

But sometimes one has really to wonder why some people keep posting things as "news" that are outdated and disproved ages ago ... I'd be embarrassed if I would post something *so* wrong! But of course, that's me.
 
Who would be embarrassed at being so wrong are not the type of people who also delete comments that disagree with them. Myself, I'm guessing that he knows perfectly well how far behind he is and is just trying to build off some past confusion for his own entertainment.

Oh well. Idiots will be idiots.
 
UPDATE! However, Del Toro's Middle Earth movies may incorporate material not found in the books, including material from different eras which could allow them to involve familiar characters like Aragorn. On the other hand, it's far from written in stone and even Del Toro has kicked around several different ideas for how to handle the movies. Bottom line, no one's entirely certain what they'll be about yet.

Well, at least he's listening... kind of. I also note that he's deleted some more comments. [crazy]
 
for personal glory and edification - rather than for accurate dissemination of information. In fact, he doesn't seem to understand how journalism works.

I suspect he desperately needs to get some hits to his site to get his stats up for advertising. If he lets it be known that he's a hack at reporting info, then he can't build a following or impress advertisers. So he tries to cover up, deny and delete.

This guy needs to learn a little humility. I understand he doesn't have time to make The Hobbit movies his life (like many of us have [sorry] ), so I can understand how he could be confused. But, he needs to listen to those who have been keeping track of this every day, or almost every day, since the movies were announced.

I think he got caught "with his pants down" and is trying to cover up his embarrassment. I can understand somewhat as I have needed to be corrected about the movies from time to time even though I do try to keep up with things. It's easy to make wrong assumptions.) But I try to admit when I'm wrong.

Oh, well. This won't be the last time a confused entertainment reporter gets something wrong.
 
It's interesting how some of these sites try to tell their readers the "news" and dismiss any the contrary, when a littel research will uncover that these things are outdated or inaccurate. A couple of visits to this site would show/prove just what exactly is going on. I mean not only is this site extremely up to date, but THE DIRECTOR OF THE FILM HIMSELF post on here about the status and specifically the format of the films. I don't get why sites like this Cinema Blend and another specific "3D" website that will remain unnamed (*ahem*), seem to not notice or even deny the statements made by the director himself on what has come to be none as the destination for Hobbit/LotR/Tolkien news and info.

We as fans of all things Tolkien are truly fortunate to have this wedsite. It really is something special.

True. And I believe the nearer we get to the filming and then to the release dates, the more rumours will be flying around and the more of that sort of misreporting is going to happen. With LotR, I missed the fun altogether, but now I really look forward to see how things go for The Hobbit. I'll sit back in my chair with a cappuccino and chocolate and enjoy the fun [;)]
 
I was under the impression that the Future King might show up. Do we know definitively that is false or just unlikely?
 
My understanding is that it has been fairly unequivocally stated that the second movie will end at the end of the book The Hobbit. So any appearance by the future king would have to be one in which he is no more than in his mid-twenties (assuming that the 17 year wait between Bilbo's Party and Frodo's leaving the shire is considered to be eliminated, otherwise he would have to be about ten). I don't see anyway that Viggo could play a character that young (absent Benjamin Button style CGI, which I think would be a big mistake).
 
...to show the meeting with Arwen, but I entirely agree that it would be difficult to do a credible job. It's also a massive distraction from the main plot thread. I hope they resist the temptation!
 
I wouldn't expect Aragorn to appear in either of the two films, unless GDT concludes The Hobbit with some sort of an epilogue.

Perhaps, if an epilogue eventuated, the events which occurred within that particular time period between TH and LOTR could be depicted such as, for instance, the exploits of Aragorn.

Or, alternatively, an epilogue could provide a segue between TH and LOTR by focussing upon a certain event which occurred just prior to the inception of FOTR, such as Aragorn's capture of Gollum, for instance. Not quite certain how either proposition would function within the context of The Hobbit, however.

Ultimately, I would expect the main body of the films to be Aragorn-free. Or, at the very least, I hope that they shall be.
 
Wow. Cinema Blend can't handle criticism. I went to make a comment on an article there, and it says I have been banned. I guess I should view that as a compliment. [:)]
