Bilbo's Jacket

I was obsessing about the same thing, but I finally let it go. People have also noticed that Sting had a red leather grip in LOTR, but in the trailer and pictures of The Hobbit, it's black [crazy]

For all the awesome detail that PJ and WETA put in, sometimes they're just hard people to fathom!

Welcome to TORn by the way [:)]

Perhaps they;ll edit the original and replace Ian Holm (from FOTR prologue) for Martin freeman. It;s a possibility.[crazy] lol

I just assumed the grip was leather. In any case, the point I was making was with regards to the colour, which in LOTR was red, and in The Hobbit is black.

You may have seen my post over in the Gaming & Collection part of the forum. I emailed a couple of sellers regarding United Cutlery and any new collections for the release of the Hobbit films. Most of them indicated that a "new version of Sting" will be released.

I'm am assuming this new version is without the enscription and with the black grip. I don't think it is a detail that has been overlooked by the production team (I'm pretty sure they all remember the original Sting - plenty of pictures on google [;)]).

Maybe the sword gets damaged/broken in Battle of the Five Armies. On returning to Rivendell, the elves make Bilbo a new grip and enscibe it, for his role in the journey [:)]

The grip on the sword Sting is the exact same grip as the Trilogy.version. The only difference is the missing inscription. The wood on the grip is dark redish brown not black.

That grip is not the same as the one from LOTR. 100%.

The trailer is to hard to tell [:)]

Not the trailer.

Your screen cap is small and blurry. Yes the grip looks "dark" (could be either brown or black). But the highest quality picture we have, which I have given, shows undeniably that the grip is black.

Of course, Sting used in the promo picture may just be a prob or something. Until we get another clear shot, we have to assume the new Sting has a black grip.

Like I speculated, I believe Sting will be damaged, leading to it being repaired by the Elves, to the Sting we are all familiar with.
