Best Pirates of the Caribbean film?

I really enjoyed the first movie. The other two, I felt, lost the plot - very convoluted, bizarre and just disorganised...

The feel is, to me, definitely one where the sequels were added solely to cash in on the success of the first, without sufficient care taken to keep the plot easy to follow.

The first one was the only good one. I loved it, but the second two lost the charm and 'feel' of the original.

Plus I loved the first movie's often delicately balanced and understated humor. The next two felt like constantly getting slapped in the face with a wet fish (or tentacle).[tongue]

That was one of the biggest problems, right there. So much of the development of the sequels revolved around showcasing special effects, whereas in the first movie, they were just there to add a certain degree of surrealism to what was basically a classic swashbuckler. Satirized, but otherwise classic. That was part of the charm and beauty, and the brilliance.

If you look up the lyrics or listen to Chicago's Razzle Dazzle then apply them to a lot of popular films right now, said lyrics still make total sense. [tongue]

Who prefers Dead Man's Chest!

What I hate about the first film is the design of the immortal pirate skeletons. Gee...couldn't stop cringing.

Dead Man's Chest has a great start (Tom Hollander is great as Cutler Beckett) and I like the introduction of the East India Trading Company. Sure the plot makes no sense at times but I found the first hour to be highly entertaining. The film halted a bit after Davy Jones his band of immortal silly lookinh band (uff, not again). But I still think its the best and I love the cliffhanger-ending.

I still like Curse of the Black Pearl though. At World's End? Did not like at all, was far too wierd.

..I saw it several times in the theater, with my youngest son -- it was a great mother/son kind of film. He loved the action, I loved the guys making the action.

Mostly, I liked the darker turn of the story; I had not seen Black Pearl first when I saw DMC, so I was kind of surprised at the different tone of that one once I finally watched it.

I saw the first one 5 times in the theater. I was 15 and it was my favourite movie for a couple years after.

I saw the second one twice in the theater and the second time didn't enjoy it as much. I haven't watched it again since.

I saw the 3rd one on TV in a hotel in Cuba.

I still really enjoy watching Curse of the Black Pearl.

I already stated that I like film 1 & 2, but thought film 3, At World's End, was horrible. I wonder what the scriptwriters were thinking.

The only good part in that movie was the death of Cutler Beckett. That part was very cool.

Pirates of the Caribbean 1 one of the best films ever made. Pirates two was good but had a weaker story and was abit cheesy in parts. Pirates 3 was terrible .
