Back from a two year Tolkien hiatus

Hi everyone! I lost interest in LOTR a couple of years ago, but during the past couple of weeks I have reread the books and I've come crawling back to you guys. [:P] Can someone give me a summary of what's been happening in the LOTR world (especially about the Hobbit movie) and also any major changes to the forum? After scrolling through a few pages of news, I can feel a headache building, lol.

No, there is too much. Let me sum up. Buttercup is marry' Humperdinck in a little less than half an hour. So all we have to do is get in, break up the wedding, steal the princess, make our escape... after I kill Count Rugen.
 
As far as Hobbit movie news, the best place to get a good summary is Peter Jackson's Facebook page (as he's the director now, in case you didn't know). There, he gives casting updates, and general production news. There are some very cool production videos there to give you a nice update of things going on, and you don't have to be a Facebook member to watch them. I don't know how much you know, but before they started filming in March, there were problems...a problem with Guillermo del Toro leaving as director, having no green-light, a HUGE labor/union fight that threatened to move the production out of NZ, Peter Jackson being hospitalized for a ruptured ulcer, etc.

There's a good list of characters in the film in the TORn Nav on the left under The Hobbit, as well as the cast list.

I'd just go to the Hobbit Movie Forum and look to all the 'News from Bree' headings and not bother too much with the rest[tongue][crazy],. It looks like you have some homework to do. Grab a nice cup of tea, maybe chamomile tea perhaps. There is some interesting stuff. Make sure you see peter's 3 videos. They are a gas. Have fun:)!
 
That is just brilliant!!! I'm sorry to hear there's so many problems. I'm sure they'll get there in the end (they'd better :P)

Strangely, this forum doesn't seem to be any busier with the Hobbit movie coming out soon(ish) than it was two years ago. I thought this place owuld be packed.

I'm going to look up the 'news from Bree' thing to catch up now :D
 
As far as the number of people here, it's been really slow lately, since we haven't gotten much Hobbit news since mid July or so. But when the news does start flowing, as I'm sure it will soon, it's gonna get really busy around here.
 
I'm so glad you've found your way back to them AND to TORn! :D

WAY too much has gone on to list... but we've mostly been waiting IMPATIENTLY The Hobbit to get filmed. There was the threat of it not being filmed in NZ, a bump in the road when it changed from being directed by GdT to Peter, excitement as the cast was unveiled one or two at a time, and the usual uproar of "what's going to happen"! So far... all the news as been fantastic and the dwarves look incredible and Bilbo is perfect!!

I'd suggest heading on over the The Hobbit movie board and spend a few days just drinking in the madness :)

We should be expecting more and more new members as we slowly creep closer to release date, so don't feel left out that you don't know every detail or might make points other people have already made... It would be stupid to expect everyone to follow everything.
