Anyone recognize this from the trilogy?

This ornate piece of leather measures 23 inches long. I thought ity might have been part of an Elven horses tack, but I have been unable to spot it.

Any ideas? Any assistance gratefully received!

That could be a strong clue as to where it might have been used in the movie.

To my eyes, it doesn't look 'designed' enough to be from the movies. Most of the stuff had even tiny little elements that related to a larger design concept... like white tree motifs on small buckles. And I don't see anything that looks particular Elvish or Rohirric to me.

But if it came from one of the appendices galleries, then I'd be wrong. But if it came from one of the appendices galleries, it would be in a category/album that would identify it.

I can tell you there are people here who ultimately more qualified than I as to movie props and costuming.

I popped over to their site, but couldn't find the item listing, even in the archives. Propstore is pretty good about letting you know what part of the movie it's from, when they can. Having their listing or the description might help us to even pin it down to one of the three movies.

It's also possible that this is one of many pieces made for the films that just never made it on screen or was so far in the background that we'd never find it.

Good luck trying to place this piece. I know what a pain it can be trying to find the tiny details in these films.

The metal design is more geometric while the Elves tend to be more leaf-shaped. Great find! This will be fun to track down and see if there are similar patterns in other gear.

It's from Aragorn's costume. It looks an awful lot like his belt, but it's much too short. Perhaps the strap he uses to tie his gear together?

You can see the continuity stills from the EE DVDs HERE and I don't think this piece matches up with anything. The leather they use on his costume is generally darker and more aged. And the decorations on his Strider costume are all more subtle.

It looks like it but then again, the Elves had very simple but beautiful tack and it doesnt look like any piece of tack that I know, unless its broken off something else. May I ask where you got either the picture or the item if its yours?

Thanks for all the feedback guys.

The picture was taken by me here at The Propstore.

The piece came from New Zealand from a crew member who had a couple of other small mementos from filming. We have no firm information for it, I thought someone here might recognize it.

Love your avatar! I hadn't thought about it be tack of some kind. I'm going to dig around in my pics and see if something matches the details.

It's great to have you join us! Just in time for the fun of starting to hear about The Hobbit film casting, etc. *twitch* HOPING VERY SOON!!!!

I ran across this photo in the Appendices and it reminded me of your photo and the design on the leather.

Just a general photo illustrating the work of the "saddler" who worked on LOTR. No names or descriptions of the tack were in that segment of the Appendices, just this photo.
So, this is just for what it's worth.[:)]

Oh, and a very belated "Welcome!"
