Any thoughts as to how PJ will approach Eagle rescue scenes? (cinematically)

(foreword note: please oh please keep -off- the whole "will they talk or not?" conundrum in this thread, I tink we need to speculate a bit on the actual arrangements of the Eagles and their ferrying of Bilbo & co.)

Talk of eagles in TH has got me thinking. . . what will PJ come up with for a very memorable and potentially epic sequence?

How would you approach it and. . .
How do you think he has filmed (or will film) it?

I personally think that, knowing PJ, he would not miss such an opportunity for special effects and amazing shots akin to when Gandalf on Gwahir flies over some mountain in FotR or the rescue of Frodo and Sam from Mount Doom . . . . but MUCH more multiplied and amplified (I mean come on, 13/14 eagles all carrying peoples!!!)

and practically how will he do it? all CGI??? I somehow doubt that!

I am sort of hoping for a "complete surprise rescue". When the fir trees are set on fire I hope Jackson exaggerates the danger - give people that haven't read the book the idea that some of them could actually die and this is the end (a mini-climax perhaps).

Just as the flames start to singe them, in come massive claws picking all the company up, and then having an epic shot of the surrounding area and Bilbo clinging on for dear life.

After that I don't really mind how the eagles are revealed - I just want drama + surprise +claws!

Edit: Someone will be pedantic and correct my use of "claws" to talons [;)]

talons for 2 legged animals - birds of prey and claws for four legged animals - mammals reptiles etc.

And yh i couldnt help myself, sometimes im too immature!
 
I hope at some point the writers have taken the time and effort to attend to the story across all the movies, Lord of the Rings included, and allow the Eagles to have brief discussion with Gandalf about why they show up at only the most opportune moments.

We know the answer to that, mostly, but the story of the films doesn't.

i could see PJ including many aerial shots from the helicopters. It seems they have done alot of helicopter coverage and what a great opportunity to show us the great landscape.
 
(1) A surprise bolt from the blue; or
(2) A 'race against time' - you know the eagles are coming [so to speak] but not whether they'll reach the trees in time.

I hope they get the eagles' voices right, birdish in a non-cartoony way. In the 80s BBC radio serial Gwaihir sounded like a very respectable middle aged chap, the type who might wear a smoking jacket at home.
 
When someone else thinks about something that had never even occured to yourself?

I had always thought about *how* the eagles are going to talk, but never did it occur to me what they will sound like!

That's food for thought!
 
I predict we'll hear the stirring sounds of the Howard Shore soundtrack followed by a shot of Bilbo shouting, "The Eagles!!! The Eagles are Coming!!!" And then we'll see the Eagles swoop down from the sky.

The scene will allow Peter Jackson to play homage to the wonderful scene he had with Pippin in the Battle at the Black Gates in ROTK. [;)]

You mean it wouldn't be a shameless Jackson reference back to the climax of his LOTR films??!!?!?!? [;)]

(Seriously, can you imagine the number of movie goers in December 2013 who will actually believe that Jackson has Bilbo taking a line from Pippin in LOTR rather than the other way around!)
