a heartfelt thanks to all who have/are donating!

The Shire
Thank you all again for all of your encouragement and help. The first two shipments of donated books were received today, a total of 26 of the original 56. That puts quite a dent in the total, and makes it a lot less daunting for my master teacher and I as far as making up the difference.

I will continue to post tallies of books received. I will also keep you all updated with the success (hopefully!) of the unit as I teach it. I will be visiting my college professor within the next few weeks to gather up his materials and handouts and what ever other resources I can glean from him, and then it'll be up to me to make the rest happen.

If you're interested, I'm putting together a website full of information for my students, as far as class materials, handouts, etc. Nothing Tolkien related is yet loaded on the site, but will be in the hopefully near future. So keep checking up with me :) You have no idea how enthusiastic and inspired this whole experience has made me. You are all truly incredible people.

Thank you for reminding me of the good in people.

Forever in your debt,
Stacy

I was going to PM/email you tonight.

I got a box off this morning (it was ready yesterday but I forgot it was a holiday). I was hoping to find some half priced used copies at our local scifi/fantasy store so I could support them. (local bookstores have a hard time of it) They didn't have any used copies however so I went to Half Price Books and headed straight to the basement clearance area. I found quite a few copies of FOTR for a dollar. None are the correct ISBN but you said you'd take anything. I also bought all copies of The Hobbit, TTT, and ROTK that they had (also for a dollar each). I figured 'why not?'. You can give them away if nothing else. They went out book rate but the online USPS site told me that would be less than two weeks so you should have them by Feb 20. I also sent, in a separate package, some bookmarks that I had as extras. I didn't think to put my online name of them so look for Minneapolis. I didn't keep track of how many were FOTR, either, so you'll have to wait for the package to adjust your total. I'm thinking around 3.

If the totals are looking short, I can also check out another Half Price Books in an adjoining town. It's one I used to shop at fairly frequently when I was actively collecting books.

I enjoyed shopping for them. I have lots of passions and there was a convergence of three of them for this: Tolkien, books, and budget shopping.

and I'm so excited to be a small part of it with the 6 books (so far) that I've found. I'm going to go ahead and get them sent off by Thursday and keep the hunt going. I think I've pretty well cleaned out the used bookstores and thrift shops around here, though ;)

Be sure to let us know how it goes. :D

Cheers stacy!!!

Just received your box today, Marilynn. Thank you sooo much. I have some great ideas for the other books now too :D This is so exciting!!!

I can check out our other Half-Price Books store. Barring icky weather, I could do that this weekend.
