First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
When I was nine, I was a terrible student and I hated to read. I was forced to read a certain number of books for school, and I would always choose the smallest ones I could find. My mom was grieved about this because not only was I doing badly in school, she was a huge lover of literature and would miss discussing it with me if I hated reading. She handed me a copy of The Hobbit one day and said "Just read it, I think you'll like it."
I read it faster than any book it's size and my mom told me there was a sequel called Lord of the Rings. It was difficult for me since I was so young and not a strong reader, but I stayed up late every night reading it until it was finished, in fact I read it out loud to my dad. ever since, I love to read and I owe a lot to Tolkien. I would probably not be in college today if he hadn't wrote those books, and I definately would not me a literature major.
Favorite Tolkien character:
Such a toughy since I love so many. I hate to say Aragorn since so many people do, but I fell in love with him when I was nine and I still am. There is an Aragorn in most films and TV shows and they are always my favorite characters too. I think it's that sense of absolute assuredness and that quiet confidence and wisdom with a hint of selflessness and duty that makes me go all weak in the knees. I try to be more like that. I'm such a romantic.
