First Lord of the Rings reading experience:
It was a month after seeing "The Fellowship of the Ring" in feb 2002 and my mom managed to get me a copy of the first two books. I sorta regarded it as the type of required reading that I dread getting from my parents and combined with the experience of seeing the movie, I didn't quite understand FOTR & TTT when I was reading them. I often skipped through parts when the characters went on and on or just to get the parts with the Hobbits, I totally skipped "The Council of Elrond" chapter thinking it was just like it was in the movie, only longer. As I matured and the years after the entire LOTR whirlwind fell behind me, I was able to focus on the details of the books better and better. Overall, Lord of the Rings is probably one of the best "Required Reading" books I ever read, next to Jane Eyre. One I'm still enjoying at the age of 21.
Favorite Tolkien character:
My favorite Tolkien character would probably be Boromir (shocking, I know). Out of all the characters, he was the one I connected with the most and also, just one of those characters I would've loved to have seen mature and change in the book/movie in the wake of his falling to the power of the Ring at Amon Hen. It probably has something to do with the fact that his actor ended up being a "That Guy from James Bond!", Sean Bean (the only Bond Villain I wanted to see get away with his scheme), who I just adore, but more than that, I like to think I love his character because he embodies so much of what reminds me of elder siblings: Someone who'll protect you and look after you no matter what and despite his military prowess, is kinder and smarter than he appears at first glance.
