because if he's not riding one of those Fell Beasts then Smaug has an awesome advantage. Of course, Smaug could just take out the beast first and then destroy the Witch-King, but it'd be more of a fight than just the WHOMP-TOAST-NOM if Witchy wasn't mounted.

No one can kill him but Eówyn-(see fineprint). And Smaug had a chink in his mail right near his chest so if the Witch king got to him before Smaug blasted him with fire, then it would be over for Smaug. But a weak point for the Witch king is that he IS afraid of fire. The Witch king would have the upper "hand" though if Smaug was sleeping. That is a good one, macfalk! I vote for the Witch king.
I do believe if our honorable friend continues to scrape the bottom of the barrel for objections he is in danger of getting splinters under his fingernails.

no *man* can kill him - and as Smaug isn't a man, I'll lay odds on the dragon with the firey breath.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. So even if the Witch-King could sneak up on him while he's sleeping he'd have a heck of a time getting to the teeny little chink in his armor. He'd step on some treasure, make noise, and end up a crispy critter.

It's Latin. Loosely translated, it means... we cheat. "Strange treasures in this fair world appear, strange all, and new to me." That is a poem by Thomas Traherne and I have absolutely no idea what it's about. But, when I was small I was made to learn it by heart so I don't see why you shouldn't suffer too.

It isn't a question of who is a cooler dragon, or which dragon did what, it is a question of who, in a fight between the two dragons, would win. Glaurung can't fly so Smaug and Ancalagon both have that advantage over him. Unless Glaurung can even the playing field by ripping off Ancalagon's or Smaug's wings I'd say that the two winged dragons would take it any day of the week. You just can't pit a tank against a fighter jet and expect the tank to come out better.

Ancalagon would have that advanage in a fight. But Glarungs only weak spot is his belly and it would be rather diffacult to get at in a fight. So I think I would be more of a stalemate. Unless Ancalagon somehow flipped Glarung on his backor or Glarung ripped off Ancalagons wings it would be a tie.

"No man can kill me", and Smaug is definitely no man. When you think about it, WiKi is pretty vulnerable. He can be killed by just about anything: aardvarks, platypuses, peanuts, low hanging tree limbs, paper cuts. Kinda sad, actually.
****************************************** I met a Balrog on the stair. He had some wings that weren't there. They weren't there again today. I wish he would just fly away.

in this one.....he's a dragon....I just have a hard time seeing one man or one wraith taking out a dragon.....I know Bard did it with an arrow, but it wasn't one-on-one....If Smaug is concentrating his attacks on just one being...it's over.....imho...

Does Smaug qualify as a 'man' because he is 'male'? Remember, Gandalf really isn't a man, but is 'male', being 'in the form of a man' but still qualifies under Glorfindel's prophecy... That's the trouble with prophecy, it's so, uh, prophetic and locked in to fact. Like Christ in psalm 22.... 'none of my bones are broken' ~ so He up & gives up His Spirit on the cross before they can smash His legs with a hammer. So, the prophecy with Glorfidel & Witchy-poo can definitely be interpreted to be 'male' versus 'man'...... Therefore, disqualifying Smaug. For the record, I think Smaug would've fried Wichie-poo. Perhaps they would've met at the River Running, & the Witch-poo would've had a double wammy: The fright of running water AND fire. He probably would've pooped his hauberk if wraiths still poop.

NYAH. But seriously, I think Smaug got so old and lazy near the end (Hobbit era) that it would have been a piece of cake for dear old Witchy.
