a few of my friends and I have been arguing as to who would win a fight like this. I say a ringwraith would win, based on his/its abilities. what say you?

Although I imagine the power that Sauron - a Maia - gives the Ringwraiths through their nine rings would be greater than the inherent strengths of Dementors, how would each kill the other? The Ringwraiths have no soul for a Dementor to suck out, and a Ringwraith is incapable of creating a patronus to drive away a Dementor. (And a Ringwraith sword would be as nothing to a Dementor.) Neither creature can exploit the other's weakness, so neither can get the upper hand.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak. As Ataahua pointed out, the Nazgul and Dementors can't effectively attack one another. They can try to scare each other to death, but that's about it.
With caffeine, all things are possible. The pity of Bilbo will screw up the fate of many.

Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible; and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing they evidently prefer. I'm a user. I'll improvise. -Sam Flynn, TRON: Legacy

I totally agree with Ataahua on this one. A battle between a dementor and a ringwraith would probably go on forever.
