...immediately reminded me of the scene in the Walking Dead S7.E9 in which Rick and Michonne drive two cars attached by a metal cable that they use to plow through a horde of zombies. It seems derivative. It was derivative...the zombie battle occurred many centuries after the elves vs orcs.

I see now why they decided to release mostly dialogue-free trailers until now....this is jaw-droppingly bad! "with our hearts even bigger than our feet." oof Everything else is horrible too...not a shred of anything remotely Tolkien to be found.

... that you comment on this line (would be interested why you think this is blatantly un-Tolkien) and not all the metric stuff we heard already.

I was not "expecting them to follow the canon there."

It's understood to which of Tolkien's material the ROP production has access. I was merely pointing out how even the very opening lines of the trailer are inconsistent with canon. But then again, in the first verse of song proceeding these lines Rebecca Campbell does urge to "Speak the your truth." And in the first trailer, the Slim Shady character does state "You will be have been told many lies of Middle-earth."

For example, apparently one can discover a statue of Beleg Cuthalion in the set design. The estate was less strict in that regard compared to the New Line movies.

Or does the statue actually appear in the show? How do we know that it is Beleg that is being portrayed in the statue? Does one of the characters say so?

... it is part of a Lindon set. The Elven statue is holding Turin's helmet with Glaurung on top (granted, it could also be Ringing). But both would be First Age characters they probably cannot tell any story of but they do use. You can catch it in the Lindon Featurette. https://youtu.be/RSzEIDRdM_U

There's a similar nod to FA in a painting of Earendil and Elwing framing one of Elrond and Galadriel's conversations.

But didn't Aragorn sing a song of Beren and Lúthien and talks to Frodo about it in the Extended Edition of FOTR while on their way to Rivendell? Was it mentioned in the LOTR books or why was PJ allowed to use their names and story? If he was Amazon should be allowed too right?

I might be wrong about this, but I believe the showrunners are permitted to use any and all references to events and characters of the First and Second Ages in creating the show, while those of the Third Age are off-limits because they belong to WB.

Was it mentioned in the LOTR books or why was PJ allowed to use their names and story? If he was Amazon should be allowed too right? PJ was allowed to use it because the song aragorn sings is in the FotR book. Beren and Luthien's names are also mentioned several times in the text. But that is all that they were allowed to use, only their names and the song. Since Amazon has similar rights, perhaps extended by the Tolkien estate here and there, I assume they can mention Galadriel's brother, and they can mention Beren en Luthien. But I don't think they are allowed to tell the actual backstory that connects the three.

Visually to me it is stunning. I love their designs for Khazad Dum and Numenor. Can feel the high production value. I'm not sure how Tolkien the show will feel as certain things are very much not Tolkien to me and others are done well. But this show isn't for a super fan like most on here (though they want us to like it), they want to appeal to a way bigger audience. My wife who has never read any of the books, only watched the LOTR one time, falling asleep after about 30-60 mins in each of them and never watching any of the hobbit movies, thought this trailer looked amazing and is willing to watch the show. She doesn't know if its 'true to the books' etc just she thought it looked amazing and she liked the female lead (Galadriel), the music in the trailer (something i wasn't keen on) to her was a good choice and made her more interested. Overall i am really excited i can share in the experience of it with her and even if i don't care much for the story (though i don't know yet) at least i can watch something visually stunning. Roll on 2nd September!
All posts are to be taken as my opinion.

I am on vacation right now with a mix of people who are either casual fans (read LotR and TH and one of them attempted the Sil) or people who have at some point seen the LotR movies and kind of liked them but not more than that. All of them were flabbergasted by the visuals and how interesting it sounds and looks. What I found very interesting is how several of them commented on the fact that it seems to be a welcomed "high fantasy" tale and not the grimness of Westeros and Co.

I'm not sure how Tolkien the show will feel... He would hate this with every ounce of his being. He was a man who didn't even want his books printed in paperback because it was a "vulgar" format. But I really don't care how he would feel. I'm ready to enjoy the show (if it is, at all, enjoyable).

Asking how Tolkien it will feel is something wildly different dein asking how Tolkien himself would feel about it (on the latter we can make kitchen-psychology guesses).

And please appreciate 'my opinion'... This looks absolutely bloody awful. The dialogue, the costumes, the non-CGI effects and sets, the theme, the music. Again - this is my opinion based upon what I have seen. When this show was first announced I was SO excited to see a return to Tolkien's world on screen. I immediately followed the Facebook page and was desperate for any and all news on the show. But right now I'm at the stage that I feel absolutely deflated by the whole project. The costumes and sets, in particular, look excellent. I think this trailer simply suffered from a poor song choice. Otherwise it looks incredible.
