Okay, I know we have had a lot of posts about what characters we would loved to see portrayed by a certain actor, but now since we are getting a new series I wanted to post something new about it. And since we don't know what stories this series will all cover yet, you can pretty much have any idea of a character who you want to be played by, even if it is a character we have already seen before you you would liked recast in this! Cheers!
"Keen, heart-piercing was her song as the song of the lark that rises from the gates of night and pours its voice among the dying stars, seeing the sun behind the walls of the world; and the song of Lúthien released the bonds of winter, and the frozen waters spoke, and flowers sprang from the cold earth where her feet had passed."

I guess characters such as Gandalf, Galadriel and Elrond have quite some chances to appear in one form or the other. It is a bit tricky to name a dream cast. I sure will not chose the movie cast, as I prefer a fresh start. But even then it is hard not to name people who might simply be above the pay-grade of a series. Overall, fresh faces will be welcomed, though. The roles are so iconic that they would be a great chance for any actor and actress. If "The Hunt for Gollum" or Aragorn's adventures feature in this in some form, I could see Joe Dempsie as a young Aragorn (the actor is 30 now). I could also see a bigger name for the iconic characters mentioned above. Someone like Michael Fassbender for Elrond. Kate Winslet or Julianne Moore for Galadriel. John Lithgow as Gandalf. All surely very high profile and exepnsive... but anyone of them could be the crowd puller that Sean Bean was for GoT, as I mentioned elsewhere. If we will get stories from the Second Age, I would certainly welcome someone like Matt Smith as Annatar. Again, fresh faces should really fill most of the roles... but some of the names I mentioned here would really excite me :)
"I am afraid it is only too likely to be true what you say about the critics and the public. I am dreading the publication for it will be impossible not to mind what is said. I have exposed my heart to be shot at." J.R.R. Tolkien We all have our hearts and minds one way or another invested in these books and movies. So we all mind and should show the necessary respect.

I think he would do very well in a Middle-earth based series. (Plus my sister would love it even more since he is one of her favorite actors) I think Matt Smith would work too as Annatar. I am honestly hoping for some more 2nd Age or 1st Age stories since we already have two trilogies set in the 3rd Age.

with Frank Langela or his works. But if you say you think he would be an ideal Saruman, than he must be a very talented actor!

Langela starred as the titular blood-sucker in the 1979 film Dracula. He also played Richard Nixon in Frost/Nixon (2008). The 79 year-old actor does bear an uncanny resemblance to the late Christopher Lee.

"The danger with any movie that does as well as this one does is that the amount of money it's making and the number of awards that it's got becomes almost more important than the movie itself in people's minds. I look at that as, in a sense, being very much like the Ring, and its effect on people. You know, you can kind of forget what we were doing, if you get too wrapped up in that." - Viggo Mortensen

I think she'd really tone down the character. And Christopher Hemsworth as Goldberry.
****************************************** The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Not yet, but they should reveal that soon. It seems as though there are some definite ideas about what the series will encompass, but it might be a while yet before there is an official announcement with some of those details.

I have some connections I definitely make between actors and characters when I visualize the actions in the books. Here are some of the strongest: First of all, any returning actors would be welcomed by me. Peter Jackson created epic fantasy and got the ball going. After that, I'd like to see the following: Fëanor: Daniel Craig Lúthien: Kiera Knightly Sauron: reprised by Benedict Cumberbach. Except played by other when appearing in Annatar form. Ar-Pharazôn: Keanu Reeves

... I can only ever see Brian Blessed when I think of Tom Bombadil. Although, I appreciate that at 81 he might be considered a tad too old for the role (not that the question of age ever stopped Christopher Lee. )

would have actually been my suggestion for playing Tolkien in the biopic.
That's my ideal Gandalf: Adrian Shine (not an actor though)
It's hard to find British or Irish actors with a matching look: http://www.imdb.com/list/ls009305298/ I'd probably name Liam Neeson, but the "eye job" irritates me. He looked better when he still had hooded eyes.
