Has anyone else come across this thread before? A thought provoking, if somewhat hillarious disection of the 'Eowen/Aragorn stew scene' from The Two Towers extended edition. He raises some interesting (if rather surprising) thoughts on the scene-a scene which I have always found a little uncomfortable, and reminds me for all the wrong and right reasons why IMDB, has a more...interesting...user base.

...In fact, this was the second of two stew scenes in the extended edition of Two Towers, the first where Sam makes stew out of the rabbits Gollum brings him and Frodo. It seems like they were trying to set up a stew-based subplot, but Eowyn's stew was so terrible, so heinous, that all stew as we knew it disappeared from Middle Earth. Yes, I've checked. After the stew-heavy middle of Two Towers Extended, stew is never referenced, mentioned, or shown again. All questions surrounding this stew are left unresolved and the viewer who dares to ponder the stew is left sadly unsatisfied. I simply cannot see the movies in the same light anymore. It all comes back to questions about the stew. I've played the scene in slow-motion, reverse, and set it on endless loop to try to gauge the characters' reactions to make some light of this scene and its ramifications on the plot and characters, and still, nothing. Only more questions which the rest of the movie stalwartly refuses to answer.
Thoughts? Funny? Thought Provoking? Or over analysis of a should-have-been jettisoned scene, or just one of several takes on the scene?
On a side note...what was in that stew?
This is not a very interesting signature is it?

They had a quite funny reaction, and it's over-analysis of a not-very-good scene. It felt awkward and cheesy to me. (Maybe cheese would improve the soup?) She's a princess, so why is she cooking, except to show Aragorn she'd be a good domestic wife, though as a queen she'd have cooks too.
It felt more like a modern-day romantic comedy where the woman clumsily tries to woo a man on a cook-at-home date, because the way to a man's heart is through his stomach, only she's a tomboy and never learned to cook, so here's that dash of humor showing that she can't. That was the effect on me anyway. Not a scene I'd miss seeing cut.
What's next: does she try to sew a shirt for Aragorn, and it's the wrong size? She tries wearing makeup for the first time, and puts lipstick on her eyebrows? That's why it felt cheesy to me. But, whatever. On the surface, I'm sure most people found it mildly amusing and went on with it.

That seen always felt pretty awkward to me (though it was very cool to find out Aragorn was 87-I didn't read the books till after seeing the film), almost like an experimentation with the two characters ( I may be wrong but didn't Eowyn make some soup for the two children refugees who turn up in Meduseld? Perhaps Aragorn has overly high standards...) and not something I would have added back in (on the commentary I seem to remember Jackson admitting it din't work). As for cheese soup? I can't say I've ever come across that before.
This is not a very interesting signature is it?

especially its tongue-in-cheek tone. Its appropriate for a scene I don't find amazingly strong but that functions in its best purpose of highlighting some of Aragorn's past. Finding out his age plus the fact that Théoden remembers him is a nice touch. Would have liked to see him named as Thorongil by Denethor maybe in an EE extension of that conversation in Minas Tirith.
Beer-cheese soup by the way Malickfan is very good!  Not sure what Eowyn used - that slimy pinkish bit *is* disturbing.

A delicate speciality which requires special herbs such as fresh chrysanthemum to bring out the peculiar flavor. Trust me, it does taste like chicken when properly cooked (I have been cheated to eat a bowl of snake stew once). Something a ranger who usually eats berry, root, herb and usual elvish food would never dream to eat.

But as JW correctly says, perhaps a semi-digested version. 
I suppose snake is possible, that's a very light colored meat. (Never eaten it, but I have had alligator.)

it struck me as a large and disgusting hunk of pork fat which wasn't fully cooked. I really found that stew disgusting looking. and I was shocked that viggo actually appeared to eat some of it so maybe it wasn't as gross and I imagined.
Beer-cheese soup by the way Malickfan is very
good! Not sure what Eowyn used - that slimy pinkish bit *is*
disturbing.

While an excellent name for an all-girl Grunge band, not so good as a food item is it?
As far as that soup/stew tasting, I think Viggo is just that tough. It looked terrible!

I'll give Eowyn maximum props for whipping up something quick, hot, and full of calories while herding Rohirrim cats and kittens.
I note that the two kids in the "Rick Cottontree" scene seem to like her stew well enough. Rohirrim soup may be an acquired cultural taste, like Menudo, Chakna, Kare-kare, Tiết Canh Vịt, Shirako, and Bitter Melon Soup.
BTW, it's sweet that Eowyn made sure Aragorn got a bowl with a big piece. (Er, you don't think that's horse shirako, do you?

Quite likely the soup Eowyn gave those kids wasn't actually made by her. They were still at the hall in Edoras then, and I doubt if cooking was one of Eowyn's regular duties - not if they didn't want half the Riders out of action at once with the Rohan Runs! Fair play to her for trying to feed her people on the road - she saw what was needed and had a go, even if it wasn't what she was good at or (I guess) particularly enjoyed.
