Trusting PJ- deleted scenes Can't Post

With one exception (Gandalf's eulogy at the Durin funeral), I certainly feel PJ and team made the right decisions in the scenes that were cut from the definitive version of the films (EE). Several scenes seemed clunky including Bilbo's "Never go East" scene (DOS) and Gandalf discovering the plantir (DOS). Other scenes were obviously pacing killers including the acorn scene (BOTFA) and the dwarves walking through Dale (DOS). As much as I would have liked to see Beorn in Dol-Guldor it's pretty obvious it wouldn't have fit well. Other scenes probably would have been equally out of place. Back to my first point, the only scene I really wish was included in the final EE of all three films is Gandalf's eulogy. It seemed brilliant and will be missed. With that being said, I wish a few moments were left out of the EE, but overall quite satisfied.

I wish they had kept the palantir and dwarves in Dale scenes [In reply to] Can't Post

They both looked like really good scenes especially the palantir, that would've been the best sequence ever.

my take [In reply to] Can't Post

Acorn - not only is him planting it in the shire both a much nicer thought and already established by thorins death scene but it's a bit out of character for bard at this point in the film his main motivation is protecting his family and his people not contemplating the future of the city

Dwalin running to thorin - would have cost the scene some momentum it is much more epic cinematic and poignant to see the two duel to the death one on one

Funeral speech - nice but
1. The moment is still conveyed nicely without it
2. Too thorin-centric he says almost nothing of fili and kili

I would have used the extra line bout the gems but his final scene with legolas does the job fine

They were just passing through on the way to Erebor [In reply to] Can't Post

It's showed the dwarves picking up burnt toys etc and seeing corpses as they walked through. It would've worked perfectly imo.

I really wanted the Acorn scene [In reply to] Can't Post

And I think Gandalf reasoning with Thuranduil about the gems would've been great. The pace NEEDED to be slowed down. I also think Dwalin trying to save Thorin would've been effective. And Oh MAN I would've liked to see Thuranduil taunt Gloin. In fact, I would've loved to see more of Thuranduil fighting (as described in Chronicles).

I do agree that Gandalf's palintir vision would've have worked in the 3-movie version. Same goes for Dol Guldur.

I for one think that even the BOFTA EE needed more scenes between characters to help slow the pace and add more emotional weight. The EE feels like the bare minimum for what we deserved, like it should've been the TE, with the added scenes I listed reinserted in the actual EE.

by cutting a few minutes of fighting.. [In reply to] Can't Post

...you could have had nearly all these scenes included, without making the movies longer.
Less running around the forges with Smaug, less Legolas vs. Bolg, etc. It's frustrating, because so many of these scenes only needed a few minutes. Not only would the movies not be longer, I bet the movies would have *felt* shorter.

Dol Guldur palantir vision... [In reply to] Can't Post

This would have been the best scene in all the Hobbit movies for me! So imo it definitely should have been in DOS Unsure.

The acorn scene and the line about the gems of lasgalen would have definitely been very needed additions to BOTFA, too.
