With Tim Allen as Gandalf, Alan Rickman as Smaug, Sam Rockwell as Dwarf #6, and Sigourney Weavers as a very blonde and busty Galadriel we can have a reunion of the Galaxy Quest gang! Oh, oh! That inspires another great idea! For the bridge film McKellen, Mortensen, Wood, Astin, Boyd, Monaghan, Bean, Rhys-Davies and Bloom can all be at a FanCon and then they're suddenly transported to a fantasy world because the inhabitants think they really are wizards and hobbits and warriors. Bean can run around panicking that he's Fellowship Member #6 until Bloom convinces him he's plucky comic releif . It'd be so cool!!
****************************************** The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Bilbo and Primo are both known for their kitchens, after all. Hmm, I guess Campbell Scott could be Beorn. Minnie Driver as Thranduil. Marc Anthony as Balin. Isabella Rosellini as the Lord of the Eagles... And Ian Holm as Smaug! That's how you use Holm without over-taxing him: just his voice! And it would nicely emphasize Smaug as foil to Bilbo, by having a former Bilbo actor play opposite in the story's climactic scene! Could Gandalf and Balin's visit to Bilbo with which Tolkien concludes the book be reworked as a long take in which Bilbo fries them up some eggs?
