Update: No new Thranduil scene in DOS EE….

Update: No new Thranduil scene in DOS EE... Can’t believe it. O.O Please, say its just a bad joke. Could somebody please say its just a bad joke? I swear it, I will not buy the movie, if that’s really true. -------- 3. I haven't seen more Thranduil sadly. But I have skimmed through so I could have missed it but I doubt it. I skimmed quite delicately! 7. The white stag scene is brief yet great. It's brief though and I don't really get the hype about it. There's only the Thranduil musical theme that gives it any depth otherwise a general viewer would dismiss it as just another weird hallucination. Not exactly memorable in terms of the whole movie but its well done and excellently shot and rendered.

Yay for lots and lots of Thrandy extras!!! *snert* I'm sorry, but this pic is begging for a caption: Andy: "That's it, mister. If you can't play nice with the staff then it's going to be taken away!" LP: "No! You can't take my staff! It's mine! Mine I tell you!"

If it's true what Annatar598 says in this topic and there's no new Thranduil scenes in DOS EE It would be a travesty! Let's pray and hope they are mistaken and we'll get to see a new glimpse of Thranduil in the EE..... *crosses fingers* This makes me wonder if we'll see some new scenes of Leggy or if we're deprived of those as well?

Update: No new Thranduil scene in DOS EE... It's disappointing, sure, but not surprising. Comparing book to movie, his number of scenes were already about par for the course, IMO. I'm not sure what else they could have added (not counting the one dwarf scene). Also, there's still that least one little green-screen clip we had seen of Thranduil and Leggy talking in elvish that IMO looked brief enough that Annatar could have missed it by skimming. Re the white stag scene: Even thought it doesn't sound long, it does sound like Annatar still thought it was well done, so that's good. I'll still be buying the EE despite lack of Thrandy.

I was in a bit of a foul mood when I heard the news of no new Thranduil scenes, and then I read your caption. It made me smile again, thanks Priceless how Thrandy is clutching at his staff, it really does appear as if he's unwilling to depart from it.

Yeah hopefully she has missed that scene. I would really like to see a little more Thranduil-Legolas interaction and I was kinda expecting to at least see that scene in the EE.

Me too, I'm still buying it to complete my LotR/HB collection but I will be quite disappointed without mwoaaar Thranduil.

I'm still buying it despite the disappointment. Eruvandi is right about the number of scenes compared to the book being about right. It's knowing certain scenes were filmed that were raising our hopes. Just hope we see them all in the extras, albeit with green screen backgrounds - and then look forward to BotFA Plus - there are some new pics at last

Re the discussion on the symbolism of the white stag
[book spoiler] this symbolism is entirely a movie-specific device. There's a normal coloured stag that the whole company tried to bring down in the book but only managed to injure, and this is after the white hind that they really didn't hit, but there's no mention of symbolism or manifestation. Though given the sources the writers and LP seemed to have drawn on in creating movie!Thranduil, it makes sense and is super exciting, especially if Thranduil speaks in this scene *I hope!!!* Lurker and mariel are absolutely right about the stag in the movie being a projection or "avatar" of Thranduil and that the book stag (referred to there as a "hart") wasn't white and didn't have such symbolism attached to it. Also, Thorin was successfully able to shoot that stag and it died. I just thought I'd add that there was, however, a white mama deer and fawns that appeared directly after the dwarves pulled a sleeping Bombur out of the river and could hear an elven hunting party in the distance. Exact quote from the book is in bold: "There they sat for a long while and did not dare to make a move. Bombur slept on with a sile on his fat face, as if he no longer cared for all the troubles that vexed him. Suddenly on the path ahead appeared some white deer, a hind and fawns as snowy white as the hart had been dark. They glimmered in the shadows. Before Rhorin could cry out three of the dwarves had leaped to their feet and loosed off arrows from their bows. None seemed to find their mark. The deer turned and vanished in the trees as silently as they had come, and in vain the dwarves shot their arrows after them." The Hobbit book itself doesn't tell us the significance of white deer, but Tolkien had them appear for a reason. As it says on the short page about the white deer on the Tolkien Gateway website,
" Douglas A. Anderson has noted that the appearance of white deer in The Hobbit forebodes the approach by Bilbo and company to the Wood-elven area of Mirkwood, as " n Celtic tradition, encounters with white animals (especially white deer) usually prefigure an encounter with beings from the Otherworld (Faërie)".[3] So knowing that, the symbolism between the white stag in the movie and the white deer in the book is actually sort of similar. The white deer weren't an avatar for Thranduil, but they still indicated that the dwarves are officially entering Thranduil's realm, just as the white stag does.

The working URL for the BHS Thranduil DOS EE scene
[In reply to]

The link wasn't working correctly, here's the working link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BbOnteBj6Y My first reaction when I saw it was *SQUEEEEEEEE* !!! And I thought this would have definitely made it to the actual EE. But sadly this isn't the case and we won't be able to see more of Thranduil if all the rumors are correct. BUT just to keep us a little bit happy for the moment, a couple of screencaps (clicky's)
That look when his dad is telling the Dwarves off

Looks like it's a clip from the Appendices. When it show's PJ talking about it, he says, "The way that the introduction to the Woodland realm took place and it's what we filmed, is that they're led in as prisoners before Thranduil. We spent quite a lot of time shooting it, I've gotta say, and everyone was great, but it was a scene that was really just unnecessary. They've been captured out in the forest, which was quite an elaborate sequence unto itself, and you really just want them to be thrown in the cells." Wow you typed out the conversation, great job But then: (..) but it was a scene that was really just unnecessary. (..) and you really just want them to be thrown in the cells.
I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Peter, just NO! Who told you could speak for the Thralls and deprive us from our much needed Thranduil kick?

I'm probably missing something massive here, but where did you get those screencaps from? Me want to know !! LOL Thrandy chillin' and looking absolutely fabulous with no effort at all
THIS!!! A black tunic? Haven't seen it before?? Looks SO good *THUD* Maybe it's a sneak peak on one of his BOFA outfits? Even Peter can't stop touching LP LOL
I could comment on each of the screencaps you posted, but that would take me too long and it's time much better spent staring at all the Pretty! Thanks so much for sharing

Just look at the bottom of the tunic. Same texture/color as the armor piccies, just look at the vertical stripes at the end of the tunic. Very very nice <insert Bofur image here>

I have to agree with phij2 (welcome welcome ) Thranduil is killing it with his bling. I especially like the wood/branch-like rings on him And re the pic with his silver crown, I'm not sure I'm a big fan of the top of the crown. To me it looks a bit too much like a deer's antlers. I like it better when the crop is cutting it off

This one is killing me! I'm sure he'd pull it off (with all the effects and background it's obviously lacking) but it looks very "Emperor's New Clothes" with the green screen (and the guy with the sock on his head down front ). And this had to be from the Feast of Starlight. I really wanted to see that. And... That's adorable! They just can't keep their hands off him.
